I have heard mixed reviews about the Sweet 17 scopes by BSA. I know some love 'em and some say they're crap. I have my Simmons 44mag on my .17 now, but have been thinking of moving it to my deer rifle. I am thinking maybe a 12 or 18x for the Hummer now? Thanks guys.

I've never seen that particular scope, but the only thing I have to say about BSA is that I'll never buy another one. I once bought their Contender model. The image was slightly cloudy, but useable. Until I turned up the magnification. The higher I turned it, the more blurry the picture got. I wasn't impressed. Returned it the next day.

Oh yeah, the parallax ring had a big knob thingy on it. I couldn't turn it all the way around because the knob hit the barrel, requiring higher rings than would otherwise have been necessary.

I've had two of the BSA Sweet .17's and both are clear as can be. The first one was on the money with the drop compensation. When I get home tomorrow I'll post a couple of pics of coins at different distances. One is a nickel at 100 yards and the other is a quarter at 250 yards. The second I have yet to set up and try. The picture is clear in it.

Some folks say that the more you pay the more you get. With technology being what it is there's little difference in products. Someone has something so the other companies buy one and reverse-engineer it. The Japanese are notorious for this. Then they sell it for a cheaper price. We're talking about a scope that's designed for a small caliber round.....not a 50BMG. There's not a lot of concussion on the optics when the round is fired.

SWFA has them for a great price. I've purchased two.....6-18x40AO.....from them and both came with a boresighter kit that I've sold to offset the price. The boresighter kit covers from a .17 to .50.

Just my $.02.
I'll have pics in a day or so.

Sorry for taking so long getting this posted. The nickel is at 100 yards and the quarter is at 250 yards.

Some people love the scope......some hate it. I think after talking to someone at a range, he doesn't like it because he's a poor judge of looking at something and putting a range to it.

Thought I'd post this in the Scopes and Optics section too. The BSA Contender has a threaded 40mm lens shade that will fit the Sweet .17. If anyone calls for one, tell them you want a lens shade for a Contender.....not a Sweet .17. The threads are the same.

The Sweet 17 is just that...... SWEET ! I put a 3-12x40 on my Ruger Model 96 and it performs perfectly. Bright, clear, functional and a good buy.
I have several BSA's on different rifles and have shot hundreds of rounds with no problems.
Guess that puts me in the crowd that loves 'em !

BTW Sniper, nice shoot'n.

Sniper-
You live up to your moniker. Great shooting. I have a BSA 3-12x50 on my .17 hm2 10/22, and its dead-on. It has a brighter sight picture than some of the older, high-dollar scopes I've seen/used. BTW- that scope used to be on an enfield, wich has "moderate" recoil. It has never missed a beat, even after several hundred rounds of 174 grn. MK's @2450 fps. I just wished my tasco target/varmint scope fared as well. Maybe I'm wrong, but I seem to remember a time when tasco actually made a decent scope, one that was somewhat respected in shooting/hunting circles. Am I totally off beat here, or just starting to suffer from brain erosion due to nitro fumes?

If tasco/burris refuses to give me warranty satisfaction for the scope I recently returned to them, I'll prob. end up getting a sweet .17 in the mach 2 version, and switching the older BSA to the mini, albeit w/ taller rings, or a ruger-to-weaver adapter.

I have never been impressed by bsa, but that was a few years ago. I'm converting my 10/22 to M2 and will look into the sweet 17 M2 version. I'm glad I read this thread I all but wrote bsa off till now.

SWFA has the 4-12x40 in the Mach II for $79.95

Their shipping is fast and customer service is real friendly.
