Enclosed is a step-by-step walk thru outlining the fabrication steps needed to make a phone camera spotting scope mount. The intent is to make your own phone attachment that works.

spotting scope lens adapter from Lowes in plumbing dept

needs a flat face + 1.5 inch inner diameter

part # shown

scope to attach = Vortex solo monoscope 8x36 high end scope at ~$100

alternate view of scope

project materials, .062 aluminum sheet, iphone 5, adapter and such

alum gage = .062 inch

need to mount adapter to frame

locate mounting holes

mount adapter to frame, notice hole size is bigger

add hook adhesive Velcro to frame, 2x strips

side tap threads into adapter at 4x locations

use circle template to mark locations to attach bolts

quick fit check

Unattached view

Attached view, very stable

Scope attachment bolts can be turned by hand

connect mini tripod mount

bolt in

connect all items, phone, mount, scope

connect phone last

focus the scope and connect the phone

across the street view

clear camera view, max phone zoom

note use of flush fasteners on inner scope adapter

off to range to sight in reflex sight to my rem 870

mate phone to adapter

zoom in on target at 25 yards

overall setup

easily see the shots, I'm only allowed to shoot slugs from the shotty

.22 rifle at 50 yards, full zoom, can see the shots on target

bench resting the 870

Observations and tips:
1. overall happy with the project.
2. 2. Performed well.
3. The phone camera at full zoom does not match the scope zoom. You loose a little zoom with phone camera attached
4. Best to use tripod, as hand held is a little shaky
5. Focus scope first then attach phone, then set up tripod
6. Attach phone last by slowly moving phone to backing while looking at screen
7. Zoom in screen with fingers
8. Have not tried to attach to rifle scope or real spotting scope, should work though

Couple more shots of the phone camera adapter couple with a 20x-60x spotting scope

shooting a Tikka .223 at 100 and 200 yards

scope set to full 60x zoom

target closeup at 100 yards

target close-up at 200 yards

no need for large full size tripod

table top tripod works great.
No issues seeing hits at 200 yards with a .223
Allows other folks to watch the shooter and target thru camera screen and/or record the video or take picture as the rounds fly

Couple more picture of the homemade camera mount:

set-up with table to tripod

off set view

zero camera zoom at 100 yards

engaging zoom with spreading fingers

100 yards, easy to see .22 holes in 60x spotting scope

50 yards, needed to backoff zoom

nice to observe target while shooting
