Just curious, I bought a 16" blued Tactical from CDNN earlier this week and took delivery today. Nice rifle at a fantastic price but the rings weren't in the box so I'm going to have to take that up with them Monday.
Anyway, it's a 581 series and I was just wondering if there is any differences between the 581 and 582 series.
I think they change series numbers when they run out of 5 digit serial numbers or make a design change. In this case I think they ran out of numbers.
New Mini-14 Ranch Rifle
580 Ranch Rifle (early version): Thin barrel, ejector in the bolt stop assembly, scope ring scallops cast into the receiver, buffer sytem using the recoil spring assembly, new tooling resulting in a slightly different look to the receiver (more rounded edges, etc.)
580 Ranch Rifle (later version)-581: Thicker flanged barrel, ejector in the bolt stop assembly, scope ring scallops cast into the receiver, buffer sytem using the recoil spring assembly, new tooling resulting in a slightly different look to the receiver (more rounded edges, etc.)

Yep, I thought $599 was just too sweat to pass up. I called CDNN this morning about the missing rings. They told me to call Ruger myself. I wasn't too happy about that but Ruger said "no problem" and the rings are on their way.
i heard from my seller today. mine will be on its way tomorrow morning & he's throwing in a scope & some extra mags! deal keeps getting better each day
