in todays email i got a survey from ruger. there were multiple questions among them were 5 new ideas for new ruger firearms. i listed a mini 14 in 308 and a scout rifle in 223. there was also a comment section that i said how i spent 1500 dollars purchasing a 308 semi auto from another company because ruger did not offer one.
maybe im dreaming but maybe if they get alot of responses maybe something good will come out soon.
I think a Ruger Scout rifle in 223/556 would be great. Personally I'd want it in a synthetic stock to make it potentially lighter too. Its funny.. I was just looking at the scout rifle today and thinking what a great looking rifle it is.
hah, I just got the same survey. I too voted for a Scout in 223/556 and also with a synthetic stock option.
Since it asked to list 5, I went on and listed other things such as a Mini 14 with a true heavy barrel without a harmonic dampener, Mini 14 that can fold up or be taken down without additional tools, a carbine similar to the Magpul PDR, and I know its heresy.. but I asked for an SR1911 in 9mm.
It also asked for suggestions and I pretty much told them to not make their parts so exclusive. I'd like to be able to just simply buy factory fire pins if I needed to. Doubt that'll happen though.
I got the same E-Mail.
A Mini type rifle was in the works, the XGI but they had trouble with it and shelved it for the last few years. I would like to see one also as long as it does not have the accuracy issues the Mini 14/30 had. It would have to be close to a 1-1 1/2 MOA rifle out of the box for me to even consider one.

get the scout rifle. i have had mine for a year now. it is awesome you will love it.
along with my recommendation to ruger for a 223 scout rifle i also said it should use mini 14 mags.
will one of you guys wake me up if either come out? thanks in advance
i agree that we are probably pissing in the wind. maybe the survey is to help them find their next wonder 9 or ar whatever. for what its worth i did use the comment section of the survey as well as rugers tell the ceo to let them know they should read the forums to see the demand for a 308 mini. yes i know there is a difference between the guys who say thats cool i'll get one and the guys who pony up the benjamins.
now you are gonna have to wake me up. im dreaming of a world with a 308 mini and a glock wait whats a glock?? never heard of it

That would be perfect! I think thats one thing Ruger needs to do.. make their mags more interchangeable since people already complain enough as it is about the exclusivity of their mags. It always surprises me when someone says something along the lines of "I'd get a MIni 14 except it doesn't use AR mags" - I can kind of understand if you already own an AR, but thats kind of a strange reason to not buy a gun if you like it enough. You don't see as much of this in the handgun world.
I also suggested a mini 308, a semi-auto magazine fed shotgun, bring back the 44 mag carbine, the deerfield, and the 10-22 magnum. I guess we can dream.....

As a side note.. I think of Mossberg made the MVP with a shorter barrel and synthetic stock, we'd have a winner that would essentially be like a handier version of the Ruger Scout rifle in 223/556.. but it takes AR mags (minus forward scope mount though).
I did not get a chance to do the survey but I would have asked for firing pins and bolts. 6 million Garands out there floating around cannot be all wrong and if you can work a headspace gauge, you can replace a bolt. kwg

I requested that in the "Other Comments" section.. that I wish they weren't so exclusive with their parts. I would prefer to buy a broken part to replace myself rather than send the gun out for a month.
Aside from possibly being cheaper.. what advantages would this have over just getting an M1A?
Just curious.
Well, if it followed the trend of the mini 14, it would be woefully inaccurate, parts would be impossible to get, it would be plagued with firing pin breakages and ungodly factory magazine prices, and it would create a small civil uprising amongst M1 owners against this "inferior" weapon...

good points on a 308 mini. i consider myself a ruger fan so that would be my reason for getting one. as long as the price is in the 1k range. yes i know i can get a used m1a for that price.
