So I have been searching high and low for a scout mount for my Mini 14 Tactical since before I purchased it 1 month ago. I looked at amegamounts, aimpoint mount, mounts that you need to remove your upper gas block for and so on. All I wanted was a new handguard with a picatinny/weaver mount. That's it. After searching all over the net, I finally found my answer. Tapco tactical stocks make a handguard with a picatinny rail for their tactical, pistol gripped stocks. I am not a fan of a telescoping/folding stock with a pistol grip and I really like the sythetic rifle stock my Mini 14 tactical came with. I called Tapco and after a little bit of sweet talking, the rep agreed to sell me the handguard with picatinny rail........for $13.00. That's right, I didn't have to spend $150.00 or even $100.00. This thing is awesome, fits tight and has a nice alley down the center that allows me to use my iron sights when my optic is not on. My Red Dot sight fits on there awesome and does not move. I had to modify my stock, by drilling two holes and shaving down part of the synthetic stock with a dremmel tool. I am not a big do it yourselfer, however this project was very easy.

Does it snap on the barrel or is that a screw I see? Looks neat.

Yea. $150 for a short piece of aluminum is outrageous. Looks great. Will they sell others? Me want!

The tapco handguard is synthetic, is it not? You may have issues due to barrel heat. Also keeping zero may be a problem as I believe it just clips to the barrel, no? Definitely looks cool though, nice work.
