"Homemade" recoil buffer?

In one of my brighter moments, I somehow forgot that there was a recoil buffer (Buffer Tech) in the shipment I got from Midway Thurs...must've been in a tiny package and it disappeared in the "peanuts". Box got thrown out w/ the trash yesterday :(

After thinking about it, they certainly don't look like anything "special", and I'm wondering who where may have made their own, and what materials they used.

I've got a sheet of some pretty dense, 1/8" cork gasket material. I'm wondering if it would hold up, seems easy enough to cut to fit and use some adhesive to hold in place. If cork's a bad idea, maybe some heavy rubber plumber's gasket...

Suggestions from those who have done this?

A heavy duty rubber material will work, use a 9 mm case to punch a hole and slide over piston and op-rod, no glue needed. I use a flat vacuum cleaner belt.

How does it work?

Did you notice a difference in felt recoil after doing this? Was it significant? To be honest, Im not sure exactly where you are supposed to install this into the gun, but I'll be looking into it in a minute.

The vacuum cleaner belt is also good for making a buffer at the front where the gas port is. I do have the Buffer Tech in the rear.

I made mine out of a piece of mudflap I had lying around. I used a simple Wilson 1911 Shok-Buff for the front, though.

I've never seen pics myself. Had a new clear rubber toilet flapper in my shed and it seemed sturdy & flexible. Hard to describe the difference but you'll be able to tell for sure.
Flat vacuum cleaner belt would be an excellent choice and possibly more durable.
