Brass deflector for mini-14

I made a brass deflector today for my SS series 196 standard mini-14, I've just have to paint it then try it out.

Very nice and clean. Does it drop the brass at your feet?

Looks good. I hope it does not damage the brass. I guess it will depend on the angle the brass hits. If it does, crazy guy you are, you'll figure out a fix

Let us know how it works.

Best Regards, John K

If continues to eject like it has in the past it'll be at 1 o'clock 4 to 5 feet. Some of the necks get dinged a little nothing that resizing can't take of.

I'm going to try to get out in the desert in the next couple of days weather permitting don't want to get caught out there in a flash flood.

I used to live in arizona, I remember one day a couple of years ago when they had really bad rain in Tuscon 2 days before. I was in Casa Grande. I watched as water came across the entire desert floor and it went several miles up my road on the other side. It was something to see, just water for miles as far as you could see. I got on my roof to get a good look.
The sun was shining, it was a beautifl day, so be careful. Those flash floods can get you.
I spend the better part of a day up on a hill waiting for the water to go down one day while gold prospecting, it had rained about 5 miles from where I was.

We have gotten little rain here in the Northwest valley but like you said it doesn't have to rain on you for you to get in deep Sh*t real quick.

When I'm in the brush shooting, I take a metal detector to find my brass if it's good brass.
If it recycled Mil stuff, fired a few times, I don't bother.
I fired about 150 rounds of old mil brass the other day that went into thick weeds. I didn't have the detector and did not find even one.
I don't have my rifles set so the brass just falls at my feet. I'd rather it extracted no matter what in case it was ever needed for self defense or a larger critter. I don't take chances. Unless I ever get an adjustable gas block, I use the stock gas bushing. I have found that just having a front buffer cuts down on the amount of distance the brass is thrown. Now I don't get calls from NASA wondering what I am launching into space

Well I got out last weekend and the brass deflector worked as good as I hoped it would, put the brass out in front at 1 o'clock 3-4 feet but put some slight dings in the mouths of some of the brass but resizing will take care of that.
I tried to find a flower pot like Joe mentioned but no joy so I got a piece of ABS plastic 1/16 thick and made a deflector out of that but this time I put a little kick on the end at about 15 degrees now that should put the brass at my feet and take care of the dings in the brass.
