This is my new, official, stream lined thread for the tactical magazine release for the Mini.
It has been a long road with lots of input, ideas, and motivation coming from people here at PU. I decided to start a new thread because there are important things about the mag release that people should know, and that they might miss since the old thread was five pages long. If you want to know the back ground of where this started and how it evolved, read here:
Now, if you are interested in one, and missed it in the other threads, here are the important points:
1) The release is available in either left hand or right hand.
*EDIT* Ambidextrous releases are now available. They will be built on an as-order basis. See image below.
2) The finish is TGIC based powder coat. Either Texture Black, or Texture Silver. Remember that powder coat is simply a durable coating, not a chemical finish like bluing or parkerization. Expect it to scrap off where the release contacts the magazine. Powder coating is very durable and very resistant to rust, but metal to metal contact will scratch it. This was my only option for people who wanted something in the way of a finish similar to stainless.
3) These releases are made by hand. Therefore, grinding and finishing marks will be apparent. (See pics below). These are built at home by two guys in a garage.
4) My R&D was done solely on my 580-series Tactical Mini. If you order a release and there is a fitment issue because you have a stock that I was unable to test fit or verify, let me know and we'll address it. I want to make sure you get a release that fits your rifle.
Cost: $35 (USD) Ambidextrous units are $40
Cost includes shipping via US Mail. The cost was determined after looking at the expenses to purchase the factory release and metal, plus the materials for welding, finishing and powder coating. I'm not trying to make a lot of money here, just trying to feed the mini-junkie habits of my fellow Mini owners and pay my expenditures along the way.
If you want one of these magazine releases, send me a PM with what you need and an email address where I can contact you. Depending on what I have on hand, or the ship times from Brownells there might be a lead time, but I will let you know.
UPDATE: So far, the only commercially available stock I have found to be too wide for the release is the Clyde Armory SCAR stock. If you have this stock PLEASE let me know when you place your order. There is at least one aftermarket wide base laminate stock that is custom, but I do not know who makes it.
The standard release is known to fit these stocks:
ATI Tactical
Tapco Fusion
Factory wood
Factory Synthetic
Hogue
Sparta Archangel
Troy Industries
45 not to hijack your thread but, I noticed your rifle before, she's a beauty. What is the scope/handguard setup you've got there? Could that scope or one similar be mounted on just the front scope mount w/o the rail? Or would the ass-end be too exposed to flying brass? I'd like a smallish red-dot to mount forward of the action, but if i can do it with the scope mount and factory rings, it'd be nice.
Ever taken out the factory release? Process is the same:
1) Push out retaining pin, remove old release.
2) Insert new release making sure spring placement is correct on trigger assembly.
3) Insert new pin. You will likely need to use a flat tip screwdriver to push the spring coil down far enough for the retaining pin to pass through it.
In theory, you can leave the small pin in place that is already holding the spring in these releases, then just push it out with the factory pin during install, but I've never found that to be very easy.
fyi, tried to view your video, opened in new window.
video wouldnt play and suddenly my antivir started freaking out. blocked 12 to 15 trojan virus attempts.

thought you'd want to know...
Your computer may be infected! I had a similar problem with a couple computers recently. AV was catching the malware being downloaded by a downloader, but wasn't catching the downloader itself. In one case, I fought the infection for close to two months. It turned out, in both cases, a root kit was present, the MBR was infected, and there was some other component I was never able to find. I eventually wiped both systems and reinstalled from scratch.
All are shipped that I received payment for. A few are still here that no one has responded to. I will recheck soon with them, but if I don't hear anything back I am going to start moving down the list to others that are patiently waiting.

I sent a PM on 4/4 and 4/7 hoping to get a RH black; never heard back from you. Would still like to order one ASAP.

Thought I replied, sorry. You are on my list, but parts are still back ordered. I am going to start bugging Brownells Monday to see what the hold up is.

Thanks for putting me on the list but you can thankfully take me off. Someone who bought two of your mag releases thinking he'd need it for a 2nd Mini didn't need it. He read my post online and PM'd me offering to sell it to me for cost. I snapped it up!
Thanks for your wonderful design, initiative and product! I hope you have more ideas in the pipeline!

I feel pretty foolish but I just can't figure out how to safely install this wonderful Tactical Mag Release by 45K20E4. I got it a few days ago from one of the posters here and tried following 45K20E4's directions in earlier posts. I just can't figure out how a flat-head screwdriver should be used to get that spring inside the housing so the original pin can line up to push out the slave pin.
Would anyone here like to do it for me? I'd readily ship my trigger group and the replacement release via Priority Mail and include cash in the package to cover costs and return Priority Mail shipping (you could use the same box for return if you open it carefully).

Well I finally installed the mag release this past weekend. The install was fairly easy and operation is fantastic. great product and a very happy Mini-14 owner.
