Troy Mini-14 Upgrade Stock Alert!!!

Price drop. Don't know when this happened or if it is old news already, but last time I checked the stock was near $800, now it is down to $649 for the entire upgrade and $399 for the chassis.

I think Troy announced reduced prices at the recent SHOT show, while at the same time introducing some new items.

I would like to see a real picture of the Troy stock and not a silhouette. I have to wonder why the company doesn't show multiple, real pictures of the stock.

That thing makes the Mini look like the AR's "special needs" little brother.

Man that thing is ugly

touched up photo

I took the liberty to lighten up the image Troy is using on their website. They have it way underexposed. I lightened it up and you can see a lot more detail in the sculpting.

Also, here is video from YouTube that shows how to install the stock:

I'm with you. At least the SCAR stock retains a little of the original Mini 14 style. If you look close at the Troy, you can almost see there is a Mini hiding in there under all that body cladding.
I think it's the really tall upper cover that makes it look kinda funny. It looks like a second story add on that doesn't fit in with the original architecture.

Its just an elongated Aimtech Hanguard rail with an attached side rail and extended top rail on an all aluminum stock.

Major plus': Takes all AR pistol grips and stocks (unsure if commercial or military) and allows the use of co-witnessed BUIS on a full length top rail.

realistically its probably not all that heavy and to be honest, troy is someone you WANT manufacturing products for the mini-14. $399 is an awesome deal for an entire stock made by troy for a smaller market of buyers.

A free float tube for an AR is about the same price from them. BUIS alone are over a hundred bucks. really, 399 isnt terrible when you look at what people are paying for their other products (which are all worth it)

I have the Troy DI carbine handguards for my AR and for a 2 piece drop in design they are rock-freakin-solid.

PS: Troy Stock doesnt work on mini's with the fixed rear sights.

Add a Socom Accustrut and a Magpul UBR stock, and it would be an attractive setup. Wouldn't be a lightwieght, but as long as it's balanced, it would be manageable.

If I can find a used 580 ranch for $400 I might think about it.
Cut the barrel down to 16", thread it and install an after market brake (My choice would be a vortex). Maybe magpul sights to cut down on weight. Ergo pistol grip and add a Magpul UBR stock as Drifter said, you would have cool looking rig. Heck even MOE stock would work.

Prices are taken from memory, so there could be some modifying in loose change.

Mini = $400
Troy = $300
Magpul BUIS sights = $85
Magpul Moe ($$$) = $56
Ergo grip = $25
Barrel cut = $75
Vortex = $65

Taxes, fees and accessories = $50

Total: $1056 give or take.

Total with UBR: $1250

So for the price DD AR you can set up your Mini to be tactiKool, and if you can find a used 580 model around $400, which I have seen. If not tack on an extra $150.

I think it's cool... IF I ever decide to add an EBR ("evil black rifle") .223 to my collection
a nice used mini and a troy setup is DEFINITELY a possibility, over an AR - just cause I have a Mini 30, and the comononality of field strip and cleaning techniques means I don't have to memorize another action...

The 30 will stay in it's stock Ranch rifle clothing (plus the few bolt ons I've added to "make it mine" since it's intended to be my pig/goat/axis deer brush gun, I don't need to take it Tacticool... but a Tacticool pistolgrip/straight recoil design gun is something I'm interested in adding to my collection someday... just hope the zombies don't get me first!!!!

There is definitely some truth to that statement, BUT this is the only solution so far that provides for a proper BUIS setup. From a design standpoint the overall shape is nice but that little empty cavity behind the chamber could have been better designed. That being said, I think it pretty much rocks. It weighs only 1/4 lb. more than the new ATI w/aluminum package. Well worth the weight in my opinion. If you add an Amega/Ultimak to the ATI (alum) it adds another 1/2 lb. so the Troy actually would weigh less in that case.

Maybe this will get Clyde to put out an updated/optional handguard that works like the vltor on the M14 with a full rail that attaches to the scope mount. It would probably help keep the mini's unique look.

Also, to get even close to the level of quality with this thing from ATI/Tapco you need to add $150 for an Amega/Ultimak bringing your final price to anywhere between $250-$350 (ATI w/aluminum). Both the SCAR-stock and the Troy are pretty reasonable when compared to those setups.

I've got two SCAR stocks that I'm trying to figure a way to do this on. My problem is that my Minis aren't ranch rifles ( no scope mount ) so I have to find a way to mount it to the current rear sight or drill the receiver to accept a rail that matches the SCAR handgaurd rail height.

I wonder if this will work with the older non-Ranch model Mini's with the original sight.

One thing I noticed with the Troy design for the Mini is that the bore of the rifle is now directly in line with the stock, much like the AR-15. Has any Troy owners noticed less muzzle climb with the Troy stock?

Can't say about the Troy but the Scar adds alot of weight. Had one and am getting rid of it.

Can't say I'm feeling it...if I wanted an assault rifle, I'd buy one.

Actually, it is a quality piece that is VERY well machined and like all Troy products I have used, top notch.
The only way they could sell the Mini MCS chassis for $120 is to use child labor in China.
I think someone over there deserves a pat on the back for putting out USA made, quality components.
Of course, if someone likes junk then this isn't for them. YMMV
