Series 180 vs 181

Howdy all,
I'm new to this forum and it seems like it has a lot of combined knowledge in it. I have a Series 180 mini 14 but it has a few parts issues.
I have a chance to buy a stock for it but the guy says it was on a 181 series.
Will my 180 fit in it? Will other 181 parts fit my 180.
I am sooooo close to putting it together as when I got it it's just missing a few small parts.
Thanks

No, the 181 stock (or anything other than a 180 stock) will not fit the 180's. Good luck finding parts for it or getting them cheaply. Gun Parts Corp (Numrich Arms) might have some. Which parts are youu looking for?

thanks for the info. You saved me some money. Aside from the stock and its parts, I need:
RECOIL SPRING
GUIDE ROD
MAGAZINE LATCH
MAG LATCH SPRING
MAG LATCH PIVOT PIN
TRIGGER
SECONDARY SEAR
SECONDARY SEAR SPRING
TRIGGER SPRING
TRIGGER BUSHING
STOCK REINFORCEMENT
TRIGGER PIVOT
HAMMER PIVOT PIN
I have all the rest but cannot find anyone selling parts. If I can't find a stock I may sell off the rifle.

Jeez Buddy, If you spend your money on all those scarce parts for an obsolete rifle, you'll probably shell-out enough to get you into a new Mini.

That's the dilema I'll face one day too. As it is, the only part I keep needing is firing pins, but at 30 bucks a whack, I could lose my passion for this tool.

I didn't realize parts were so expensive. I already have a newer mini. if I can't find parts then so be it. I bought what I have at an estate sale so not out too much.

If you arn't too attached to it best list it for sale to someone that has a 180. Ruger stopped supporting the 180 but somebody would like it for spare parts. You might make some good money on it. F of Rs.

I'll give it a little time to see if any of the gun shows have parts. If not I will take your advise.
Thanks again.

What are the differences in the 180 series? What parts will interchange? Anyone have a link to some info on this. Tried a google search, but didn't come up with anything. Could an after market stock, such as the Tapco, be modified without too much trouble, to fit a 180 series?
Thanks,

I'm not sure about all the parts that might interchange, but I do know that the 181 and later all have a deeper stock up on the front end, so they won't fit into the gas piston block where they need to. Conversely, the 180's wouldn't fit either, because they're too shallow on that end. The handguards are different, the left sideplate on the receiver and I believe the sight assembly are different too. Not sure about the trigger housing parts.

I'm not saying it would be impossible for somebody with a lot of resources and a whole lot of modifying of parts from both models, but it certainly would give your gun a face only a mother could love. Better to spend your time and money on something newer.

Good luck.

I ended up selling my beloved 180-series Mini-14 for just this reason. It broke the extractor, and I tried for over a year to find a replacement.

I sold it to the only person I knew who could fix it. And they did. But it has a couple of other issues that will soon require repair, and he may find himself in the same situation eventually.

I was just cruising the Mini-14 forum tonight for old time's sake, as I no longer own one. I crossed over to the Dark Side (Bushmaster) awhile back.

tejanofig, I think I still have a few odd parts around here somewhere. I should have a used hammer strut and spring, a new recoil spring, and a new magazine latch, and maybe a couple of other items I've forgotten. IF I can just figure out where I hid them.

Before anybody asks, I've already sold all of my 20-round factory mags and stripper clip guides.

I do have a couple of collectible items that I may put up for sale in the classifieds.

Anyway, it was good seeing you all again. I'll try to stop by again sometime.

And you'll never hear any of that AR-shooter Mini bashing crap from me.
