Thinking of a possible purchase...

195 series mini made in 1998, Stainless Ranch

Is this a good year? 195 a good model?

The guy says he can shoot 1 inch groups at 150 yards...does that sound like BS?

Thanks

California Shooter, I wouldn't come right out and say the seller is full of BS. BUT, 1" groups at 100 yards are difficult enough. 150 yards, I would ask him to take you out to the range and demonstrate. If he can do it, BUY it. h4198

What type of modifications does it have. Unless it has several key mods I'd say it was unlikely he was telling the truth.

It would have to have a bull barrel and possibly sent off to have work done from Clarke Customs, ARS, or Gundoc. How much is he asking for it? Does he shoot handloads or factory? You definately want to see it shoot first to believe the 1'' at 150 yds.

let us know what all he has on it or done to it,

It has no mods...stock 195 series.

Ok, aside from the claim of 1 inch (which I don't buy) what about the 195 series in general. Made in 1998. Are these good ranch rifles or have problems?

Thanks

He wants 400 shipped and it comes with 3 mags (ruger 5 rounders).

Non of the series other than 180 are bad, and the 180 isn't necessarily bad, it just isn't supported by Ruger anymore. With that said, a 195 series we be a fine Mini. I have a 196 series Ranch and it's a good gun. The claim of 1" @ 150 yds sounds like complete and utter BS to me, but if he can do it by all means snatch it up and send it to a lab for testing, as it would be the most accurate stock Mini ever created. And $400 shipped isn't a bad deal.

1 inch groups at 150 yards

are those 3- or 5-shot groups?

FWIW, I have a slightly-tweaked 195-series stainless laminate Ranch (trigger job, gas port, homemade barrel sleeve). It readily puts 3 factory rounds inside 1.5" at 100 yds off a crappy rest. I like to think that bedding it and finding a favorite handload and a good bench (and maybe a better operator) would get it inside an inch. His claim is not outside the realm of possibility. It would be a pretty special Mini that would do it consistently, though.

I have a 195 series stainless/synthetic ranch. It's been very reliable. After having a Mike Knifong trigger job and bushing kit it's a lot more fun to shoot. At 100 yards a five shot group with handloads will normally go under 2" with four of them under 1&1/2".

If that guy takes you out and tries to shoot a 1" group at 150 yards he's gonna be making all kinds of excuses why it's not happening.

He must have shot 5 round groups and threw out 2 or 3 as fliers.
