Hi all- been lurking and love the info on this site. Just got my mini 14 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, cant shoot it till the range opens April 1. Uggh!! Almost considered getting a small game hunting license, which permits hare(I forget the type) and coyote hunting all year, no limits. I have a public hunting ground a mile from my house. I considered getting the license and taking my new mini out there and playing around. If the warden stops me, I would have said license to cover my butt. Anyway, have learned lots on this forum, and am looking forward to learning more. Have 500 rounds of some cheap Tula ammo burning a hole in my pocket so to speak. The waiting is the hardest part. Glad to be here!!

Looks like a great forum. Already learned a lot just checking it out. I have a new Ruger Mini14 Ranch series #581 and love it. I replaced the wood stock with a black Hogue stock with a Choate hand guard. I did a trigger job myself ending up with a 3 lb pull. I own several pistols and do my own reloading for .308, 9mm and 40 s&w.

First post here. Been reading for a while and want to say thanks to those that provide all this great info.

Hey guys been creeping for a few weeks finally joined! Had my 181 series since i turned 18, it was the first rifle i ever tore down and learned inside and out love it. debating about getting a new one after seeing how much they have changed since mine came out.

New guy here. Ordered my Mini-14 5847. Should come in next week. I picked a Mini-14 over the AR15 after reading so many good things about them on here and on the net. I have been in LE for 33 yrs., my PD's always had M4's, or Colt 6920's. I never really paid attention to the Mini-14 until recently. Some of my guys carried theirs and I became interested in them after handling theirs. Did research and decided to buy one. If I like it, I may get a Mini-30 in 7.62 x39 also. Thanks for your help!!!!!!!

Welcome SGT45. I have the mini 14 and mini 30. I believe you will like both of them. My 30 is more accurate than the 14,but maybe that is because I have a scope on it. Enjoy yours and be safe.

This looks like a great site for the Mini crowd. I just picked one up....a 581 series.

Shot and qualified on an an older GB series with our team years ago. She always shot flat and well on the combat courses and live action... and never a jam. I should have bought it when they went to the MP-5

Been putting it off for years....now I just need to get some range time!

I want to install a Bipod on my mini 14 Target model 5828 with black hogue stock,I dont like the Harris adapter,to sloppy,not a clean look.I want to drill a hole in the rubber stock about 3 inches rear of the gas block and install a sling swivel stud but when I took the rifle apart there is a metal plate inside the stock that seems to be molded in.Any suggestions,anyone seen this???

Just purchased a mini-14 last weekend. 182 serial stainless with black fixed butt pistol grip poly stock.

Didn't come with optics but has the riser.

Have not shot it yet cant wait to go. maybe this weekend.

My question is about sighting in my muzzleloader. Could i shoot 1 50gr pyrodex and my bullet i use for hunting while sighting and zeroing in my scope? Im just trying to keep my shoulder from taking a beating at the range. I normally shoot 100 gr pyrodex during the season thnaks

Sorry about your shoulder but it won't hit the same point of impact with a lighter powder charge. This will make your point of impact way low and cause you to miss. Try getting a softer recoil pad for the weapon and good luck with it.

Just found this site, had the 581 mini 14 for a few months.

BTW- I did buy a 582 series Mini 30! Has a Synthetic stock and shoots real nice. She is going off to Gundoc as soon as I hear from him!!!
