I bought the Benjamin NP Trail air rifle in .22 cal with the 3-9x40 scope package deal. I was astonished at how well it shot and how hard it hit. I've killed many yard varmints with it and shot completely through 1 inch pine using good pellets from places like Pyramid Air. I love air rifles and own 6 or 7 of them.

Then, folks, might i suggest for your quick research:
1. Was there, an air rifle, carried on the Louis and Clark Expedition? If so, what was it?
2. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, in of his stories, had as a 'tool of demise', (an air rifle of such capacity, that it was used to put down tigers being hunted in India), but was used by a henchman of that Dr. Moriarty. Was that a true design, or an author's alliteration of a more common design, written into the story?

As you can see ... neither design was meant to be used by, ahem, children.

i have a bsa hornet, and that it is fun as hell to go to the range at the 50 and show up every gun on the range. people are usually floored. i started in air rifles and have a beeman r1, beeman kodiak (the older one made in england). and one thing i can tell u is a spring piston gun will teach you how to shoot, they are very hold sensitive. one thing england and germany can do is build great air rifles. no one elce compares. it is like comparing a sthil to a poulan chainsaw.

I like to use a .117 cal 8 shot Gamo semiauto pellet pistol for whacking rats in the mango tree in my yard.
it's actually pretty damn accurate out to about 15 yards and with the right ammo @ 400fps - drops rats, and is quiet enough not to disturb the neighbors.

Not a kids "toy" IMHO

a daisy red ryder BB gun is a kids toy,

a well built and powerful air or CO2 operated pellet gun is a useful tool.

RWS 34 in .22 over here. Unfortunately my community has a 'no discharge' policy so no backyard practice for me - unless I can talk the wife into moving outside the city (definitely something I am working on!). It kills me that 40 years ago there were no such policies, yet now they seem to be the norm most places...

Still, a .22 pellet is cheap, quiet practice, and air arms are HIGHLY recommended!

Gamo, Crossman, Benjamin and Daisy in my stack of guns and you do not want to get shot with the .17 cal Gamo out to 50 yards, 25 yards will damage you 50 yards will just hurt a lot. Crossman is a pistol and a serious target gun, haven't tried to measure power on it but from a rest at 10 meters it rivals my S&W M41 for accuracy using heavy match pellets.
