Ive seen these recently too.. 89 bucks is damn cheap for big5. Im in the same situation as you are. I currently have an M38. Buy it.. shoot it.. love it
My opinion is to buy as many of them as you can afford. I or two at least. Cases, I mean. One place here in KY had them for $79.99. At that price, I took ten. If nothing else, think what great stocking stuffers they make.
I also have an M44. I have a hex receiver dated 1915, and an M91/59. The M44 is great fun to shoot, and I greatly appreciate the folding bayonet. However, you will find that the 91/30 is a great shooter. All the 91/30's I've seen (and bought) are from WWII (1938-1944), have had pristine barrels, and are a bargain. The extra weight, plus addtional 8" of barrel makes them easier to shoot than the M44. Stock up. They only made 37 million of 'em. They're comin' in now by the caseload. And while they may never see the appreciation in price that the SKS has demonstrated, they will hold their value. How can they not? Stock up on spam can 7.62x54R while it's cheap. Now in its third century, the Mosin-Nagant will outlive all of us, and probably the cockroaches too. They may even outlive Keith Richards.
I see it like this. Even if you're not into the military history part of it, they are a design that has proven strong and reliable in the snow, in the desert, and in the jungle. The are as reliable as a rock, shoot pretty dang good, are high powered, and use cheap ammo. So, you can get a high powered, good shooting, rugged, reliable rifle for less than $100. The only question that I see, is why isn't everybody running out to buy these things? LOL
Note: One warning, though. When you start learning about the markings, and the history, and then start shooting these things.....you'll want more!

Lookout!
He's trying to infect you all with "Mosinitis" early symptoms include:
Purchasing of Mosin Nagants by the caseload,
Constructing Home furnishings With Mosin Nagants.
as the disease runs into it's terminal stage, the patient
will start referring to everyone as "comrade", buy a Shapka and wear it in the summer, and develop an uncontrollable Craving to subsist on nothing Borscht and Black bread. He may in extreme cases, paint a big red star on everything he owns
Be careful if you encounter a victim of Mosinitis -
if cornered, he will holler "motherland!" and bayonet charge.
the only known cure is an inoculation with an M1903 Springfield, a few 98k Mausers or several Enfield SMLEs, if using SMLE therapy - be cautious that the patient doesn't lapse into Enfieldosis due to overdose.

LOL. Actually, I got addicted to Mosins trying to wean myself of the slightly more expensive addiction to SKS. Those things are like puppies. Two followed me home from a gun show just yesterday. "Can't I keep them, pleeeeeeeeeez? Just LOOK at those ADORABLE bayonets!!!".

I suspect that might have been partially directed at me
Guilty as charged.
I came close. I was very tempted by a Schmit-Rubin at a recent gun show. The rifle wasn't expensive, and it looked GOOD (and similar to this one) but I was put off by the fact that the ammo didn't seem to be anything readily obtainable. This is NOT the case with 7.62x54R, which is cheap and abundant.
Oops, sorry, gotta run. Time for my 1915 hex receiver's rubdown.
Being a language lover, I took a year of Russian in college, many decades ago. So I can READ the alphabet, but my memory of the language itself is faded from lack of use. So as I read through it, what jumped out at me was being able to sound out "FIREBALL". LOL
Apparently, your translator could not TRANSLATE the word, so it transliterated it instead. LOL
If you guys are making "pillow talk" to your M-44's and M-91/30's, do not (repeat DO NOT) purchase a Finn M-39! All the rest of your Mosins will become extreamly jealous of the attention you give that Scandinavian beauty, and refuse to fire.
