mini 14 mag insertion
I just bought a Promag 20 rd magazine and had to make some tweaks to make it feed properly. Although it now feeds well, I still had problems inserting the mag. I found if I insert the mag at too much of an angle the cartridge would get flipped up in the back and ride on the back of the mag and would not allow the mag to engage. I got out my Drimel and put a slight 45 degree angle on the front lip of the mag and put a slight bevel on the inside of the hole in the mag (just enough to remove the sharp edge) and found the mag insertion was much easier. As a matter of fact I can now push the mag straight in and sometimes did not have to rock it to engage. I also cleaned up the angled face of the pin and put a small amount of grease on it. I went back and did that to all my old mags and they now all insert much easier and quicker now.
