What about Saiga?

I'm kinda new to the shooting world, have only owned a variety of 22's.I own a 197-xxxx Ruger Rancher that I'm happy with, and like the .223 caliber.Yesterday I stumbled across a reference to the Saiga .410 ,then discovered that they also offer a .223,all based on the AK action.can anyone tell me how these guns stack up for quality, reliability, accessability, etc.?

Well, as a "super moderator" on the Saiga forums, I would recommend them 100%

I have owned 14 saigas in the course of about 10 years now... and they are among the most rugged, reliable, and simple weapons system on the planet. Do not forget... they are manufactured in the original izhmash facility that made the ORIGINAL AK47's.

It would take me more pages than I care to type to sing the praises of them.

Check out the saiga forum and you will learn all there is about Saiga rifles and shotguns.

You will not be disappointed in any Saiga you buy.

no... While Perfect union is a GREAT resource for firearms in general... the Saiga forums specializes in those! It is its own forum on the net...

forum.Saiga-12.com

It is the best repository for information on the Saiga firearms platform.

I have Saiga's in both .223 and .308 and have enjoyed both. They are quite reliable and inexpensive ( about half the price of a new mini 14 and a third of the price of a new Springfield M1A). They are not showpiece guns, but if you want a reliable no-nonsense gun they are hard to beat. I have kept mine in their sporterized version, but they can be converted to the standard ak47 format if you so desire.

prairiesmoke,

Welcome to the PU, my friend.

BTW, we usually chat about the Saiga rifles in the "AK Talk" forum here. In fact, I've got a few posts of my Saiga conversions the "AK Gallery".

Bottom line, the Saiga is probably the most underrated firearm that I've run across in my years as a shooter.

Indy said it best..."they are among the most rugged, reliable, and simple weapons system on the planet."

I would highly recommend the .223 version. Bottom line, you get the reliability of an AK-47, with the same cartridge used by a Mini-14 and AR-15. Plus, they're a breeze to clean and maintain.

And, despite what you'll hear or read, the Saiga rifles can be very accurate...

Check this out

Again, check out the "AK Talk" and "AK Gallery" for more information about the Saiga rifles.
