I am looking for a chest rig to carry AR15 magazines.

I say between those two, BDS, they make good stuff.

How much use are you planning to put this through, do you want to add ballistic protection later on, and how much of an issue is weight?

I personally have some gear made by Condor that has seen a lot of heavy use and held up well. They get trashed a lot on forums but I love mine. Tends to be a little heavier than some other brands but it will take a lot of abuse.

Also, for the lightest weight gear check out First Spear. Got to handle some of their gear at a recent conference and speak to some of their reps, came away impressed.

Weight is not that big of an issue.

Use? The occasional weekend of shooting.

If you're talking real light use and don't plan on adding a plate, a chicom issue or modern copy can be the lightest, most compact and cheapest option (I got mine $20 shipped.) I bought a new one in heavy duty polyester woodland camo, in it's 3 mag pouches I have: 2 with 2x 40rd Mini-14 mags with homemade loops, while the 3rd is a BOK (CAT, 6" Israeli bandage, gloves & chemlight.) The 4 utility pouches are loaded with: 2 each hold 40-50 boxed .223 rounds, 1 holds a cleaning kit (Hoppe's & boresnake) and the last holds a packet of QuickClot Combat Gauze. It has the faster Velcro with snap closers and the only modification I had to make was to tie in a waist clip from an old fanny pack. I'll admit that without some modifications it just flat out isn't modular, but if I need a great grab-and-go setup it's pretty ideal and mates well with the older webgear I have for medium/heavy carry.

For light use, I agree on the Chicom idea. The SKS chest rigs work great for light use, are cheap, and are easy to throw on and off. Check out Amazon and eBay, and for sporting/weekend use you can save money by getting Airworthiness grade gear.

Of the 2 you listed, I like the BDS better.

I've been told that most, if not all of the surplus Chicoms need to be stretched to accept 2 mags per pouch. I got lucky with my modern one, it was only rated to hold 90rds (3 30rd mags) in the 3 mag pouches but im currently carrying 160 in only 2 of them, 320-360 with my backup pouches. I'm pretty satisfied and a bit impressed with that personally, no wonder it's so widely copied.

I can't wear it out. I bought the molle tactical ops because I had to buy special mag carriers and configure my own rig. I have 4 30 rd grease gun mags .45acp and a holster for my XD .45 with two mag pouches. It fits well once adjusted and I have yet to find any loose threads or wear on it. Surprising quality and durable stuff for 35 bucks.
The funny part was I bought all of it from an airsoft site so I was very skeptical to say the least of the quality. Turns out the grease gun mags fit in the airsoft P90 pouches.
