It does look like a lot of fun. I would like to get involved in practical/tactical competition that puts emphasis on practical skills. I guess I'm a little prejudiced, but you'd never catch me wearin' those stiff jackets - I like to call 'em straight jackets - I like doin it the old fashioned way. Prone, kneeling, offhand.
BTW, anyone lookin at this post interested in 3-gun competition? I'd love to get out and do some 3 gun practice. Maybe even set up an informal team...
Sounds like something I could get into, but you are too far away for me to join you.
Where can I find out more about three gun events? I've heard about them but don't know much about 'em. Don't even know if they have them in my part of the country.

Actually most competitors that I've seen in 3-gun matches use tactical gear. The stuff I used last time was all made by Blackhawk, Fobus and Bianchi. There are some etiquette restrictions on this gear - no camoflague or t-shirts with smartass sayings like "Kill em all, let God sort em out", etc.
Yeah, setting up a team and training together would be really fun. All you really need is a controlled range, some wood obstacles and cardboard silouette targets - white and brown colored. You would also need a range such that allows shooters to discharge downrange and not from a bench - anrd to find on most public ranges, but possible. If you live in the SW, you should be able to find some spots outside the city limits to train at. If there are any Perfectunion members out there living in AZ who want to start up a club like this, let me know. I'm interested!
If you are from Portalnd area I can give you info on these shoots. They have them quite often at my range. Give me a shout and I will give you the info or just look it up this link Tri-County Gun Club and look up practical rifle .

Thanks gossman.... I'm out here smack dab in the middle of the country in Nebraska. I hit the link you provided just to check it out and wow! What a neat shooting facility.
There are a few ranges scattered around my state but there is so much open room, that most people have access to a place to shoot so the clubs are not as nicely developed. Silhouette shooting seems to be one of the more popular out here for rifle. Lots of trap ranges.
I just need to do some checking around to see what all is available here.
Yah, that's what I'm talking about. I was referring to High-powered long range shooting when I was talkin about guys wearin straight-jackets.
The kinds of ranges that 3-gun shooting is done at I think are usually limited to < 100 yards. Most of the engagements take place at less than 20 yds, so the thick jackets to eliminate your pulse are not necessary for this.
The USPSA has organized 3 gun matches. An Area 3 gun match it is in Bakersfield on FEB 11, & 12. There is a California 3 gun series that starts in March and they shoot from Sacramento, to So CaL I think they have 6 matches. Also some IDPA Clubs are starting to have 3 gun matches. It is a lot of fun.
The 2004 USPSA 3 gun Nationals were held in Reno, NV in June, 3 days, 15 stages
250 shooters. Get started and have fun.
If you are close to Az check out Rio Salado's I think they have a website... Also look at the uspsa.org website for area 2... There are quite a few shoots in so cal or maybe its more like central california..... All depends on how far you want to drive... Out here in teh Bay area there are quite a few 3 gun or 2 gun type events that you can go tooo.... I think SOF has a 3 gun as well that is pretty challenging......
