Sticker shock at the local big box store

I went over to the local big box store today to get some bullets and other components. I was floored!!!!! I'm still using primers that I paid $1.25 a box for and powder that says $13.95 on it. I've got lots of bullets that were $14.00 a box of 100.

I couldn't believe what they are asking for this stuff today!!! And the price of a box of loaded cartridges is two to three dollars a round.

Boy am I glad I reload!! This place has a row of nothing but bullets and its 30 feet long and 8 feet high and they didn't have one box of 35 caliber bullets for a 35 Remington!!

They have 2 aisles the same size as the bullets plus displays all over the floor but no loaded ammo for the gun. I wanted a flashlight but they didn't have anything under $30.00 and they were all LED's and I cant see worth a damn with LED's.

I came home and ordered what I needed from MidSouth and it was less than half the cost of the store. Yes I had to pay shipping but it was less than the tax would have been here.

These places have driven the little stores out of business and now they can charge whatever they want. I think I would do without the stuff before I paid the outrageous prices they are asking.

Besides I just love the melodious voices of the ladies that work the phones at Mid South. FRJ

I was the same way about 6 months ago when I went out looking for bullets and primers for 30-30. Complete sticker shock.

I'm loading .223 using powder, bullets and primers that I bought from 1998- 2005. I'm also loading .45 acp and .38 spl with boolets that I cast using lead I bought at $0.15/ lb.

I'm glad I bought components when they were "Cheap".

I order military pull down powder by the 8lb jug as well as pulled 223 and 308 bullets.
There's also military surplus powder for pistol too, from fast burning to slow for magnum loads.

I've also found myself shooting my 22's more than I used to.

I know the feeling... Thankfully I have become wise in the ways of the "Beichirks"...

Their powders AVERAGE 18 bucks a pound, and primers are around 27 to 30 bucks a thousand.
Sure its more than days of yore... But its not the DOUBLING of prices for components you see at the box places.

I will drive the extra 30 minutes to go there, and drop 3 or 4 bills easy on things I need, rather than go the 10 minutes to a fishing pro store and pay out the nose for the same... *AND* have to leave a copy of my DL... SCREW THAT!

Why would you need to leave a copy of your drivers licence? Its for driving not buying legal components. I'd just tell them to go to hell and talk it over with my attorney. Screw them. FRJ

I bought some a few weeks back $50 for 1000 primers, 33 dollars a lb powder. Ordered the bullets online $22 for 100. The prices are crazy and there is no need of it.

Ya got me swingin... I never understood it myself... But the local bass pro WILL NOT SELL powder without a copy of your DL... makes ZERO sense to me either!!!

Again... Thats why I WILL NOT EVER shop there for components... ( the fact their prices are DOUBLE whet I can get the things elsewhere for, is a big part too! )

I last bought primers at the fun show about a year back - Wolf brand - they do well but I was amazed at price increase just couple years back.
