Long range bench rest shooting

Im looking for a round for my Remington model 700 .308 for long distance shooting right now im shooting 168 gr. Sierra HPBT with IMR 4064 with CCI magnum primers. i would like to know if i should completely change my load or just modify it?

You will need to load develop anytime you change any component of a specific load.

What is it about that load you don't like? How far have you shot that load? How accurate is that load?

That bullet doesn't have the greatest ballistic coefficient, but it should be good to 1000 yards.

Im can hit a 1'x1' gong at 1000 meters ive never put it on paper and grouped it. I can currently i am shooting a 4" group at 700 meters.

You might be able to get 200 yards more with the right bullet. Do some bullet shopping at MidwayUSA.com to find a bullet with a bit better BC; then develop a load with it.

It sounds like your load is already a great long range load for the .308. Maybe what you really want is a longer range rifle?

sounds like you are doing ok to me... I dont think you will get too much better with it.. you change one variable and you will have to tweak the whole thing all over again...

haha well im looking at getting a .338 lapua and that will get me my range that i want but i just cant seem to let myself put down that kind of money.
