Moon clips are used to allow a rimless semiauto cartridge to be fired in a revolver. The clip replaces the cartridge rim as the headspace agent.

Some revolvers are designed for their use from the factory, such as .45 ACP, 9mm revolvers.

Other pistols are modified for their use such as .38 super in .357 and I know of one custom .44magnum reworked to use cut down .308 cases with moon clips.

You can not use them in just any revolver.

I have a Taurus 608 8rd 357 I had converted to use moon clips . I did so purely for reloading time . there;s a place out of Texas I think it's ten ring precision Ten-Ring Precision, Inc. cost was around 150 ish if you shoot alot it's a good investment .

I have a couple of .357s that take moon clips. They don’t really work as well as they do for .45 ACP. The long .357 cartridges are more difficult to align with the chambers to get them to load, and the cases from different manufacturers tend to come in two sizes and will fit one vendor’s moon clips, but not another. To use the clips I would have to segregate my cases and clips I just don’t bother, but I don’t shoot my .357s in competition and have to make quick reloads.

Moon clips? I have used HKS speed loaders for the .357 Mag. since 1973, I never felt the need to use full moon or half moon clips.

I like the moon clips on my 627.

They do take much more time to mount bullets onto it than a speed loader. However, it's faster to reload with a moon clip, for me than a speed loader.

Just got a S&W 627 and love it, but I am having trouble with getting the moon clips to work satisfactorily. I bought the moon clip tool and some clips, but danged if I can get the clips to seat. Well, I was using my range's reloads. Guess I will try some Fed or Win today after hitting the LGS ... the moon clip manufacturer says that these will work. It is a great concept if I can just get it to work.

I believe you have to use 1/2 moon moon clips or 45 Autorim cartridges or they won't eject in a revolver.
I know that ruger manufactured a revolver that had a wire finger to engage the rim of semi auto pistol cartridges.

I ran across one in a Bing search but the guy wanted $80 for one freaking speed loader. Yeah, right.
