I have a Lee 1000 pro press in 45ACP, I want to buy the dies, shell plates, etc. to reload .223 what all do I need to get buy extra to get started?
Does your Lee Pro 1000 have the new powder hopper and not the disc? I also use Hornady case lube, an aresol spray that works great for the rifle cases and on a progressive press, use liberally and you won't have any trouble. Case trimmer and a debur to get them all the same size and makes for good loads. I guess you have some calipers and a powder scale?
It has the hopper with the double disks, no case no powder, what dies .223 obviously but 2 pc, 3 pc.,charging die, what? I'm just getting into this. The .45 was already set up out of the box. I feel like a monkey with a math problem, when I look at the options. I like simple
Buy a deluxe set of Lee dies. You get a powder drop die in the set which you will need, and the dies only cost like $5 more than just the drop die. You will also need a #4 shell plate, and a rifle case feeder. The primers are the same size. Use lube. This die set supposedly doesn't need it, but that has not been my experience.
The problem with this setup I just mentioned, is that you are short one station to load in one pass, just so it's not a surprise. You might want a couple more turrets.
Next time I gotta look at the dates on these things:wacko: just noticed.
