First and foremost, when God made man and woman, He said that the two would become one flesh, or one being, at any rate, in His eyes and potentially and properly, in their eyes.
And that one is not only in flesh, but in destiny, purpose, love, character, integrity, desire, and in all other ways. And in the vast majority of instances, the woman is happy to submit to the husband, for a marriage must have a head, and as Jesus is the head of the church, the husband is the head of the unity, the oneness, called marriage.
However, that cuts both ways, "Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency." 1 Corinthians 7:3-5.
That power over the body thing, and that defraud ye not one the other, is speaking of sex, which of course is put aside during fasting and praying. Hmmm...has it occurred to anyone that the fasting and praying thing, accompanied by abstinence, might be the best cure or fixative for so many marriages in peril today? Probably not....
Don't think it's possible? Well, with God's help, it isn't only possible but a state of blessedness perhaps unmatched by any other relationship between man and woman on the earth.
