When I was a kid I would just walk across the road onto my grandparents property out in the woods and shoot as much as I wanted to. Now I live in an urban area for work and shooting has become more challenging. What I am looking for is a good place to shoot rifles in the Seattle area. I live in Renton just to the south of Seattle, and I would appreciate anyone with a good suggestion. I am willing to travel a little(25 miles) for a good location. Sometimes I really miss living in the boonies.(I grew up in the Colville WA area.)
I live north of Everett these days, and do most of my shooting near Darrington.
But I used to live in Burien, and would often utilize the logging roads and gravel pits up in the North Bend area. I usually took the Edgewick Road exit, and turned left (north), and headed-out that direction. Might be worth exploring that area.

The only places (that I know of) w/in 25 miles of you are ranges.
Issaquah Sportsman's Club is a nice place, and the rangemaster is a pretty nice gal. 20 some covered shooting positions with wood benches. 100 yard max. $10 to shoot, but a year membership is only $65. ISC is my preferred rifle location.
Way north, there is Kenmore range. I don't like it. They charge per gun. If you shoot rifle, then want to go shoot pistol, you have to pay another $12.
There's also Renton Fish and Game. Never been there, but they have shotgun facilities. I think it is members only.
There's another range in Ravensdale, I think.
If you're into pistols, there's Wade's Guns in Bellevue. They have steel plate matches on Wed, and NWPA on Thurs. The meets are great fun. $12 for a lane, $7 for each add'l person. They have a ton of guns for rent, too.
If anyone knows of any good gravel pits, I'd love to hear about them.
Its A little farther than 25 miles but I always go out behind the u-fish pond in wilkeson . Out past Orting its more like 50 miles but no one bothers you up there. We have even had the county sherrif drive by and tell us have fun but be safe.
Noob here but there is the Renton fish and hunt club 100 bucks a year and GREAT place, they have trap shoot, wlk thru bow, pistol, 200yd. rifle, and a noice clubhouse too.
If you are willing to travel south to Puyallup, then the Paul Bunyan is the place to go. It's a private range (the only way in is with a code) but, the facilities are the best in the south. My opinon of the Tacoma Sportsman's club is that there shotgun range and walk thru archery range is excellent. They put to much money in the club house instead of their outdoor ranges.
Anytime you guys are in the Olympia area, shoot me a PM and I'll show you a huge pit just twenty minutes outside of town. There's a couple members on THR who know what sites I'm talking about. Other than there, I used to go somewhere up forrest road 73 off of SR-410. Only had one run-in with Johnny Law up there. Too far of a drive for me with having a pit 20 min away. No rangemaster, no fees, just the occasional idiot that needs a talking to.

And during the summer around 3000 ATVs and motorcycles roaring around. Besides that DNR is talking closing The Pit due to mess left by shooters.
WADNR has been dealing with public misbehavior and vandalism in Capitol Forest for years, usually with more and more restrictions on access. A friend of mine had her Jeep Wagoneer stolen and driven off a cliff while she was hiking. Anyhow, I enjoyed my memberships in the Evergreen Gun Club and the Capitol City Rifle Club when I lived there years ago; good safe places to shoot with some real facilities.
collvile huh? I grew up in colfax. send me an email. I think you can find it on my profile. Ill give you some sugestions that I dont want everyone and their dog showing up at kinda out in trees.
I used to shoot up in the sultan basin, but not sure how many of the pits are still open to shoot at??? Where in darrington do you shoot?
I did too until the dirt bike kiddies forced us to stop.
Fearless little morons would ride towards our targets when we were shooting.
It's a wonder that one of the red necks that also shot there didn't take one of them out.
Our small group of shooting buddies just stopped and went to a commercial range.
