And again with the smart guns....

Democrat Rep Wants Guns With Electronics Making Them Inoperable To All But Owner? Says He Got The Idea From James Bond : Personal Liberty Digest?

So how dumb do you have to be, to push public policy from something you saw in a James Bond movie?

Already been over the details on this one, but for anyone who missed it Smart Guns 101 Interesting twist is the idea of retrofitting all the existing guns. Who will pay for it? What about the (ruined) collector value of some of the classic guns out there? Bad, bad, bad stuff here.

Fight it tooth and nail guys, since you don't want anything but a good old fashioned mechanical system between your desire to fire the gun and a very loud noise.

Best,
Grumpy

I've seen the ring setup, where if you don't have the ring on, that matched up with the right diode in the grip, the gun would not fire.

Works really well in theory. The officer who showed it to me at the range was shocked when I was standing right next to him at the booth, took the pistol, and put 6 rounds into the target. Why? The diode was next to me. So much for proximity sensors. Little too much proximity on that system, but I'm sure they had to do that so it would always work when the "ring" wearer had the gun with them. (Change hands, and you can't fire the weapon if it has to be in contact, or if the proximity is too far away... Like when you need to shoot free hand, or around concealment...)

And what happens when the batteries go dead?

When my CTC grip goes dead, the laser does not work, but the iron sights work just fine, as does the rest of the pistol.

The pistol I shot was a service revolver from the LAPD, in about 1981.

So I'm sure technology could be improved, but again, I don't want to pay for it, or have the weapon become in-operable should I need to shoot left handed, or have someone else pick up my gun, and save my life by shooting the bad guy who just knocked me down. (Seriously, I'd rather trust another citizen to be a good guy, than to trust some expensive, and complicated nanny device like this.)

I worked as an auto technician for a number of years and can tell you, electronics fail. I would hate to be the one who's ass is on the line when the chip in the gun failed to recognize the transmitter in the ring and click! Your dead!

Some company had a booth set up at the NRA show promoting that technology, I didn't take time to visit with them.

As I pointed out in other posts they have finally realized they can't defeat the 2nd amendment so they are going after reguation. Allow me to list the ways they are coming in no particular order. You are welcome to add to the list.

1. Laser imprint on every cartridge.
2. Laser imprint on every firing pin.
3. Federal excise tax on every gun purchase.
4. Federal excise tax on every ammo purchase.
5. Federal excise tax on every accesory related to firearms/hunting.
6. Liabilty insurance minimum of $1 M for gun ownership/license.
7. EPA regulations to ban lead bullets.
8. EPA regulations to restrict gunpowder emmisions.
9. Increased Federal restrictions on ammo and firearms mfgs.
10. Federal limits on number of FFLs and where they can locate (i.e. liquor stores).
11. EPA restrictions on gun ranges.
12. AHCA implementation of mental screening for gun owners.
13. Random drug and alcohol screening for gun owners.
14. Ban on foreign imports deemed hazardous.

I could go on and on but I'll quit here and let the PU take over.

Pretty much sums it up. My take is that some of the commie states are going to be the proving ground for these ideas - like Kali's APP program. That's the one where they cross index registered guns with newly prohibited persons, allowing a slow motion statewide gun confiscation as they slowly prohibit the population on any excuse. Advantage to the gun grabbers is that there's no definable event at which they're taking the guns, since they can just ramp it up like boiling a frog. And of course its only "bad people" getting their guns stolen by the state.....

Gotta fight 'em all tooth and nail, and be as "unreasonable" as necessary to achieve the desired effect of keeping our rights and freedoms alive, since "reasonable" means "we give up something and they don't" in this zero sum game. They want our freedom, and as far as I'm concerned they can pound sand.

Best,
Grumpy

My thought is the weapon is as smart as the person who uses it.

Smart enough for me.

He could have shot that cop dead with his own weapon.

A US sniper was killed not long ago at the range.

When I'm at the range and must go down to retrieve targets my shooting buddy will stand at the ready to protect my ass and I do the same for him.
Yep, I don't like to go to the range alone for just that reason. Used to go to a "hot" range, where I just slung rifle and kept my sidearm in a holster while I went downrange. Anything I couldn't carry would stay in the car trunk. Unfortunately the safety rules at my current shooting club are stricter and I don't want to get tossed out for being "unsafe", so if I'm alone, I keep guns except for my concealed defensive piece locked up 'til I'm ready to go. Then store everything before retrieving targets.

Best,
Grumpy

Guys, we were at a shooting range, as a group.
The LEO was there instructing us on SAFETY and use of handguns and rifles.

His pistol was being used, and he was having folks wear the ring when they shot the pistol.

My large hands would not let that happen, and since he was next to me, I figured it would work since he had shown how it would still fire offhand.

He was to my left, and next to me at the range table where I was standing.

There was no supprise that I had the pistol, it was my turn to shoot.

Boy Scouts was fun for stuff like this.
