Hello All,

So I just purchased my first Mini 14 (stainless series 196) and it came with a scout rail on it. I think I'm planning on going a different direction with the gun and want to put on a wood hand guard and the stock stainless gas block top, but the previous owner misplaced it.

I was wondering if anyone had a good source to purchase one. Alternatively, can I get one from Ruger or would they make me send in the whole gun?

You might call Ruger and ask if you want the correct answer.

Find out (ask Ruger maybe?) if the gas block top half from a 183 series will fit your 196 series... if so, I've got one you can have for the cost of shipping it. Its stainless and not doing anything but taking up space, but I'll have to look and see if I have the screws for it or if I used those to mount my rail, I don't recall off hand...

Brownells probably has them if you need to go that route.

Personally I think I would leave the rail there as a barrel stiffening tool....or you can sell it and buy yourself a strut.

I ordered an adjustable gas block for the 6.8 today.

I tryed to get the gas block top cover from ruger and they would not sell it to me, they wanted me to ship the gun to them. No way, 4 to 6 weeks to get it back.

I saw stainless gas block screws on MidwayUSA the other day as well.
