Mix and Match

Got a 186xxx mini that I have modified over the last couple of years. It has been in an ATI stock which I like a lot. Just recently aquired a 184xxx blue mini folder "UNFIRED" . I plan on keeping it that way. It belonged to a good friend who has passed. I placed my 186xxx in the factory folder so I can enjoy it and leave the 184 alone. Feels good but havent shot it yet. Thinking of getting a wood handguard then try to match it to the folder................Joe

Hi joehorner,

I just love the factory folders. Did the the 186 just drop in without any "force"? If it did, you are lucky, I had to do inletting on both of my folder stocks!. I have a couple of wood handguards but, getting them to match color/grain is nearly impossible...I gave up and use the OEM plastic guard. Its amazing how tight the arm locks both folded and extended...very sturdy. You now have a classic in your collection!

Back at ya Ed

Yes the 186xxx dropped right in. I have seen your thread on your two folders. Tactical Twins. NICE . I was pleased that it did just drop right in. Because I don't want to modify the original 184xxx setup. It just makes it easier keeping the original folder pristine and unfired. I even have a letter from Ruger stating that the 184xxx left the factory in June of 1983 as a blued folder with the front side swivel. It is sometimes reffered to as a "civilian folder" . Thanks for the compliment .....Joe

Wow joehorner! Unfired?! Second "wow!" Give Marlin 45 Carbine a hollar if you want to run a few rounds up at Cold Mountain - I'll join ya. I'll see if I can drag my folder along (soiled with powder I'm afraid).

Good tidings of joy will come from that rig!

Cold Mountain is a bit of a hump from Chicago . If I read your location correctly. Tried to hook up with Marlin last year. It just never came together. Sounds like a plan. Really like that "free range" over in that part of the county. ............Joe

Everyone here is very jealous of those factory folders.

I would buy another mini if I had a factory folder to put it in and I'm sure I'm not the only one

I second this. A blue new 580 tactical in a blue new factory folder. But the factory folder is walnut. And instead of blue its black chrome so no rust. If only... lol
