Going OK, but I'm a bit spooked about your pal. Wish I knew more about California (and even federal) law, but the California AG has a pretty detailed web site on the state rules: http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/pubfaqs.htm#20

However, it can still be confusing. Most of it applies to purchases rather than gifts. One good point is this: Can I give a firearm to my adult child? Can he/she give it back to me later? Yes, as long as the adult child receiving the firearm is . . .

However, beware that this may apply only when both parties are California residents. There may also be issues under federal law because it was an interstate transfer.

Tell your friend to be VERY careful. It could be a crime for both parties if local, state, or federal laws were broken.

Tell him to research this and check with an attorney. Wish I had more positive info, but better safe than sorry (losing a rifle is a lot better than going to jail).

How's it going Joe? My friend lives in Southern Cali. My friend is a resident here and his dad was not. The Mini was purchaced by the stepfather from a LEO in SoCal. My friends stepfather was in such a big hury to get out of the Country. I guess the Philippine islands couldn't wait. :) He got 3 mags with the rifle, 2 10 rounders and the factory 5 round mag. He is worried if he trys to register they might take the guns away from him, for not going through the proper procedures.
