M1A 30 Round Magazines

I see some of these for sale. Has anyone here had any experience with them, or the 25 round models? I'm basically fairly ignorant on M1A mags. I know Ruger Mini-14 mags very well, and have tried most and collected the best, but I am adding 308 to my options and am new to M1A stuff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Avoid the 30 rounders and stick with the 25 rounders from CMI.

I dont think the 25rd mags from CMI offer any more benefits than the 20rd when you look at the price difference, unless you are getting a steal on them.

The benefit is that the CMI mags function while the 30 round mags do not.

I knda figured that, since mags that are both cheaper and higher capacity usually make great looking paperweights. So CMI is pretty much the only game in town for the M1A?

CMI, Chinese (Poly Tech & Norinco) and authentic USGI are all good to go, but beware the frequent FAKE USGI mags!

CMI is the military contractor. CMI is the best option you can get for new, fair priced mags. I personally like the 20 rounders best. They're heavy and big enough as it is.

For the price and what you get, yes CMI is the only game in town.

Going to a Gun Show, you'll see USGI Mags from 30-60 dollars each

Look at 44mag.com and you'll find CMI Mags from 22-35 each (Depending on sales and 20rd or 25rd). -- New.

The 25rd mags are usually considered too long for bench and prone shooting.

Stick with CMI 20rd mags.

when the 30 round CMI mags first came out, I bought three at $29 each from .44Mag. I keep one in my M1A Loaded and my SOCOM. If I have to grab and run, the extra 5 might be important.

CMI does not make any 30 round mags for the M14.

H20 Man speaks the truth

I sure mistyped that one. I did mean the 25 round CMI magazines, NOT 30 round.

From what I've heard, the CMI 25rd mags fit in MOLLE double 30rd M16 mag pockets just fine, and two of them fit ALICE mag pouches also.

The thing is, you don't have to put a magpull on or put something in the bottom of the pouch lift up the mags, like you do with 20s to get them to the top of the pouch. And you get five more rounds, handy when the zombies rise.

I prefer 20s though.

I've tried contacting CMI about making 30 round magazines... they said they would probably do it if there was enough interest... thus far I have someone from m14thefiringline forums interested for 10 or so, I myself can go for 15. I know what everyone is already going to say about a 30 round M14 mag... i don't care, I want them. Anyone who is interested let me know, we can get the ball rolling on this.

you havent seen the 25's in person have you??? if you had you would realize how asinine and useless a 30 rounder would be. I have no interest for a 30... I have a few 25's but didnt realize how big they were before I ordered them. If I had known I would have waited for the 20's to come back in stock.

No kidding, the 30's would be insanely long. I don't want a mono-pod for a magazine.

I still personally like the 20's in the M14's. Even the 25 rd mags are too long for my tastes.

You saw where I said I don't care about that, right? If you have an M14/M1A with a pistol grip stock, it's not as bad.

I like 20 and 25 round mags in this MK14

I like 20 round mags in this Crazy Horse M21A5 EBR

I'm not interested in owning a 30 rounder, but I would try one if CMI makes it.

That's cool... so if I'm understanding you right you're interested to know if they work, but not interested in purchasing one to find out? Either way, nice guns!

My line of thinking is somewhere along the lines of ultimate SHTF situations.

The length and weight of the mag are concerns.

The 25 round mag weighs 1 lb. 15 Oz.
A loaded 30 rounder would weigh approximately 2 lbs. 4.5 Oz.

The 25 round mag is 7 inches long.
The 30 would be approx. 8.25 inches long.

A bare bones M1A weighs close to 10 lbs.
The BETA mag is said to way about 10 lbs loaded

jfc, that is very heavy.

I'm thinking about selling my AK and getting an M1A socom 16, but damn, that is some heavy equipment. Say you have 8 or so 25 round mags, plus the gun, you're looking at 25 pounds of stuff to lug around.
