Harrington and Richardson Garand?

I recently acquired H&R Garand and have some questions. Were any of these ever issued to armed forces? Is there a composite stock,or a walnut that will fit well? Bubba painted the metal with dura coat. Any way to remove it? What color was the issued metal? Thanks in advance. 6thcav....

They were U.S. issue, and postwar given to a bunch of countries. Virtually all have been rearsenaled.
Either Boyds gunstocks or CMP has new walnut stocks. I believe the CMP stocks are made by Boyds.
Duracoat can be bead blasted off, or possibly removed with an epoxy paint stripper and lots of patience.
Issue metal finish was parkerizing.
