M1 chamber Qustion????

I have a springfeild with the serial number in the 3740000 range. Shot for the first time today and noticed that there was a ring around spent case about 1/4 away from the top. Didn't think much of it until i saw the second and third and so on. Looked down the chamber and there was a ring about 3/4 down the chamber. My question is what cause that or did it have a sleeve at one point for .308 ? Why i thought that was i held a .308 case next to the 30/06 case and where the ring was match the .308 length. Can anyone tell me why its doing that or was it sleeved?

It sounds to me like it may have been sleeved. Is it causing a problem with the rifle functioning? If not I wouldn't worry about it.

I wish i could get some insight on who would sleeve them and was it maybe a navy gun. I heard the navy was some of the first to go to .308.
