How is Marlins customer service these days?

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for any advice or info.

Just bought a Marlin 1894CS this morning and first time out to the range, within the first magazine load the lever started 'sticking'. By the end of the session it was stuck (but good) and when I got home I found dis-assembly instructions and proceeded to have a look inside for the burr or shaving responsible.

No such luck. Inspection of the rifles interior and cycling the rifle has revealed that the stickiness is the 'double feed' I have read about for years but have never experienced in either of my 336's.

Okay, so I go to Midway and check price on a replacement carrier - YIKES! Those things are pricey. So...
How good is Marlin service these days? Right now I'm thinking of sending 'er in since it is literally a piece that was out of time out of the box. OTOH if that means a 6 month wait or incorrectly done repair I may just pick up the replacement part and retime it myself.

Experiences? Advice?
All the best,
Grumpy

I'm a huge fan of big bore Marlins and have a few --- all made before they became "Marlington" and produced crap for a couple of years to my understanding......remember I don't actually own any of the new ones but I hang out here and over at cast boolits forum and plenty of those guys do own them.

From the chatter I've caught over there the production, fit, and function have been cleaned up in the last year or so. It's certainly worth a phone call to Marlin as that has been a common problem I've read about often with that caliber and model.

Hi Tazman1602;

Yes, the fit and (apparent) function on this "remlin" was actually quite nice (good wood, nice inletting, relatively smooth action, etc) so I had my hopes up and was pretty dis-spirited when it started doing the "marlin jam" on the first tube of ammo.

Anyway, its on its way back to Marlin for a tweak and I am just hoping it won't be too long until I get it back. For one afternoon, it was a LOT of fun. So, when I get it back even if its not 'right' I will do what I need to do to make it 'right', even if it means tracking down a 'marlin expert' gunsmith. Way too nice of a shootin' iron to do anything else with it!

All the best,
Grumpy

It's been three years back I picked up a NASTY pre-crossbolt safety 336 at my favorite pawn shop. The furniture was all there but the metal was pretty nasty and the rear site was broken. I pulled it apart, kept the furniture and shipped the metal to Marlin for eval and a re-blue. They were so backed up it took 6 weeks to look at my rifle, but their price was good and they went WAY beyond what I paid them for. It came back (except for some slight machining marks) looking like a new gun. I'd brag on them to anybody; might want to check on how busy they are if you're in a hurry, tho.
