The lever actions are a clever design which began with the Spencer's and culminated in the Winchester's.

Initially they were designed as Civil War "assault weapons" -- and as the first "repeating rifles" they were vastly superior to the trap-door rifles.

Of course Adolf had not yet been born so he could not coin the phrase "assault weapon" yet ... but he would have loved them too.

Canadian hunting guides still use them for mounted big game hunts against brownies.

I think they are beautiful.

And as a kid I watched enough Western movies to fall in love with them.

The lever action system was invented for the Volcanic Arms Pistol Company in 1855. This first lever action system was invented by Smith & Wesson. Oliver Winchester a clothing manufacturer bought the S&W patent and the Henry Company. To this day Winchester .22 rimfire has the Henry "H" stamped on it.

I Might buy one if they come out in 6.5 creedmore. The 243 is a little wimpy, and the .308 (with heavy loads) is at about my recoil limit. I would also wait for it to come out in the "All Weather" variation.

I handled the 308 Long Ranger H014 today at my local gun shop. I am a big fan of the lever action (partly cause I am left handed) but was really impressed with the feel. Quality walnut wood stock and they were saying you had to open the lever 30% less for a quicker reload. I am really trying to talk myself out of another rifle but am loosing the argument!
