Another perfect sunday morning

First thing after retrieving the morning paper I open the curtains that overlook my neighbors 20 acre pasture,and viewed a lone cow battling with a group of antagonistic crows.I kind of thought the old girl could handle them ok but thought maybe she might have been separated from the rest of the herd for calving.We had just a skiff of new snow last night and that's when these cows like to give birth.In about 10 seconds later out comes a coyote on the run toward the same area as the cow/crows,and being a good neighbor I slid open the window and whistled once to get the coyotes attention!It stopped briefly,and then stopped forever............223 rem 50gr sierra blitz-170yd headshot.Cost of gun-around 1K$,cost of ammo around 13cents,seeing coyote stop.....priceless!Bye bye doggie!

coyotes raise hell calving time. i've seen them in the calving pasture chewing on a calf before it was all the way dropped. there is no love for them around here. last one i shot was antelope hunting, 350 plus running shot, the old remington 700 30-06 with 165 grain sierra took care of it. couldnt get a shot at the secound one

I used to use the ol 06 for everything-but have since downsized to the 223 for most purposes-even for blacktail deer.Don't get me wrong-I still have the 06 loaded and ready,with 165gr hpbt sierra hunting bullets-started using them in '68.They perform so well for me that I refuse to change!

bought a johnny stewart electronic call at cabela's today, its cheap and has a few issues but had a coyote within 100 yds of me within 12 to 14 minutes. for a cheap call its not to bad, on sale 79.99. it was the first time my stepdaughter (13) had been out calling, she spotted it, very proud of her. she is hooked now and wants to go calling all the time, she also layed claim to the mini 14 if her mom doesnt have claim to it
