i want to load 100gr rn .380 in 9mm brass. my question is, seating to the min.oal of 1.050'' i only have .151'' of lead in the brass barely enough to crimp.
anyone ever dealt with this before and is it okay to load ?
If you're not meeting minimums for reloading of a given cartridge it's adviseable not to go through with it. The lightest bullet I'm aware of for 9 X 19 is 115 grains. It has a different contour than either 9 X 17 (.380) or 9 X 18 (Mak) and may cause feeding and ballistics problems in your pistol.
Maybe nothing bad will happen, but may be better to go with what's designed for use with 9 X 19 than to push the envelope with that combination.
I would not advise it either. Just looking at the rounds the .380 appears to be more blunt to me. If you have to seat the bullet really shallow you are compromising your ogive too so I would not expect these rounds to be accurate.
The most accurate rounds I have for 9 mil are 124 grains. I load Hornady XTP's.
If you insist on loading them then I would seat them farther out and crimp well. Do they cycle the action well? I do not have a favorable opinion of 9s but do have a Makorov and 380s. When I do load 9s(for my nephew) they get 115 grain XTPs also.
