Cryoing?

Doc, If I sent you my M-30 for a trigger job could you also facilitate a cryo job to the barreled action?

I could......but it'd cost you more. A cheaper option is to send me the trigger for the trigger job and send the barreld action to the cryo company. Otherwise you'll pay more shipping to and from me for the added weight.

You don't need an FFL to ship your parts to reputable companies like CryoPro or 300Below as they have the licensing to ship and recieve firearms.

Does that mean that CryoPro and 300 Below have Manufacturing FFL licenses? There were seperate threads of concern about this issue on a couple of boards recently. Neither of the websites in question state if they have an FFL. I sent CryoPro an email asking for clarification and never got a response. I know that both companies do good work, but by not addressing this issue on their websites (beyond stating that it is ok to send a barreled action with the trigger group out) they do themselves a dis-service. The concern is that no matter what one states on their website about what is "OK" to do, Federal law is specific in prohibiting non FFL holders to ship to non FFLs except in some very specific circumstances.

Do they or don't they.......only they can say. It's not illegal for me as an FFL to ship guns to unlicensed folks, as long as they already own the gun. That's my whole business model. But you are correct about non-licensee to non-licensee shipping. If it's a gun that needs a 4473 run, then yes, an FFL to FFL transfer is needed. To be quite honest I send only one or two guns a year (or less) in a busy year off to be cryo'd. I have to suspect that if Cryopro or 300Below weren't operating legally they would draw the attention of the ATF and something would have to be done.

Since I don't personally believe cryo is the wonder process some claim it to be, I don't do much with it. If it were all that, in my mind, the manufacturers would do it as doing several hundred a week or more would be a drop in the bucket for them on the high end or guaranteed sub-moa rifles. So do the research and ask the questions of anyone you intend to have freeze your stuff. CryoPro doesn't even unwrap the rifle, stating that you should wrap it in a towel for packing as the whole thing goes in the vat and comes out that way.

I just checked the ATF website, and 300 Below, Inc of Decatur, IL IS listed as having a Type 1 FFL.

We are good to ship!

I was unable to locate anything for CryoPro. There are several FFL licenses in Rogersville, MO, but none specifically for them unless it is listed under someone's name and not the company. Even so, I was unable to match up the mailing or premise address.

I have never done it, but I think it may have some merit. I think for the price it may be worth a try. I have run cryogenic brakes rotors on my vehicles for several years, and the treatment makes for a drastic difference in stopping power.
