Don't know why I like this Krag so much but I got it from an old man who was done shooting, in fact he looked like he was about done, period. Great ole guy. He took a lot of time on this, stock inletting is perfect, beautiful grain, I think it is a Bishop(I used to be a dealer years ago). Has a great trigger and the good ole Weaver K4. It is a shooter. I shoot 180 gr using H-335.

that is a slick rifle! what caliber is it?

It is the 30-40 Krag caliber, I handload it and it is between a 30-30 & a .308. Has taken a lot of elk and mulies here in Colorado in the past. This one shoots about 1 1/2" at 100yds, and if I go elk hunting I'll probably take it just for old times sake.

You probably like it due to the fact that it is just about the slickest action made. Very smooth. Ammo seems to be a little hard to get especially these days.

Yep, I rented one, yes rented, a Krag from the local Gambels store when I was 12 for $5 so I could hunt deer. Full military style, worth a small fortune now, and fired 3 shells, 1 small buck mulie. My Dad did not like hunting but took me anyway, I only saw Dad fire one rifle in his life and it was the Krag, one time. He was a boxer who almost killed a guy in the ring and he swore off hurting anything the rest of his life including deer. Was the kindest, gentilest man I have ever known and am 67. Krags are special to me, would like to trade this one for a restored military one.

Im curious if you can school me on how exactly the side mounted scope is supposed to work? I have a krag here that my friend wants me to handload rounds for him. But Im curious to know how the side mounted scope is properly used? should the scope be level with the rifle or be canted towards the axis of the bore so the cross hairs are level when you cant the rifle? or are you supposed to use your left eye if right handed? thanks

Highdesert, I'm traveling back east for another few days so will post a pic for you. it sits off center from the bore but it lines up perfect for my left eye. the way the stock is made it is really comfortable. will post next wed, hope it helps. i use h-335 and 180 gr hornady.
