Sorry for taking 3 weeks to get back to you, THANKS for the nice remarks. Would be nice to make your Dad's Garand nicer for him. When I bought mine, the stock was completely destroyed from Water damage or being in river mud, I am thinking that some soldier used this thing in Viet Nam and totally abused it...If not Viet Nam, the closest thing would have been Ft. Polk, LA, Viet Nam America style...So I bought a Boyd stock and my gunsmith (my brother) took the rifle apart cleaned it extensively and put the $160 stock on it...Now I feel I have a show piece, besides being a great shooting rifle...It's worth it man...If you saw the before pics and the after pics you would not think it was the same rifle.
