It was announced yesterday that Florida has a backlog of over 19,000 applications for CCW permits, and that the state is having to take on more employees to deal with the backlog. Currently applications are taking over 6 months to process. Hope this isn’t also the case for renewals.

Your best bet is to look up your nearest field office for the Florida Dept of Agriculture, call them and set up an appointment. Right now, the Punta Gorda office is about 2 to 3 weeks for an appointment, but people are reporting receiving their permit in 10 days or less. All you need is your Certificate of Proficiency and a check for $135. They do the electronic fingerprinting, the permit photo and computer filing of the application in one session. Since it's all computer processed, it takes the paperwork shuffle in Tallahassee out of the equation.
