I just purchased a Boyd's Evolution in circus colloring, it is amazing the pictures you see on the web don't do it justice!!

What should i use to finnish it? I did a walnut stock a few years back with tru-oil from walmart and it came out pretty nice, but was looking for other sugestions. I want the deep rich glossy look for it.

So what suggestions does anyone have??

PS when finnished it will be a preasent for my girlfriend. i am also planning on using an aluma-lite barrel and duracote a teal to pink fade down the barrel and across the receiver. I will be posting pictures as i get started. open to any and all sugestions and advice!!

For the last few years I've used a product available from Brownells called Gunsav'r stock finish. It's a spray can poly that really does look like rubbed oil and is much more durable and easy to apply. It comes in satin and gloss, runs about $10 a can and 1 can will do several stocks. Every customer I have used it for truly loves it and several bought some for themselves when I showed them what it was.

In case you didn't know, DuraCoat can be mixed so that you actually use 3 colors. Teal, Pink, and a mix of the two in the tansition zone. It'll provide a little different look than anyone else has.

I was wondering how you touch up the gunsvr stock finish? I love the look, high gloss and ease of touch up using tru-oil. Can you use tru-oil over the top of this stuff?

I lightly steel wool the finish and respray. If the scratches or dings are deep I sand and steam and respray. I even use the finish on furniture and it's held up very well.

My Son's Father-in-law gave him a Remington model 33, 22 rim fire. At best their worth 300 dollars. It had a couple of rust patches on the barrel, 40 percent of the blue was gone and the stock was dinged with lots of finish missing. I cleaned up the metal and used Oxpho blue on it, stripped the stock, stained it and put 10 coats of tru-oil on it. Before it was a cool old gun, now, it has the wow factor added to it. Very high gloss and glass like. I'm breaking my arm here trying to pat myself on the back.
