House Passes Rules Easing D.C. Gun Restriction

I watched the House debates on this last night and was amazed at the gun grabbers cries of doom and gloom.

One House Rep. said that kids would be walking the streets with AK47s if this Legislation passed!

Cries of Doom and Gloom come from many sides when the subject is firearms.

For example, had the NRA stuck to reporting facts about the relative merits or lack thereof of the presidential candidates, they would be far more effective in persuading swing voters, IMO. As it is, since they've sunk to mudslinging, I'm seriously questioning whether to even renew my membership. All the vitriol coming from the pro-2nd amendment side accomplishes nothing that a good workout wouldn't (it just makes the spewer feel better for awhile), but instead it does great harm to the cause. When the constitution, natural law, and reason generally are on your side, it never makes sense to throw tantrums. It's childish behavior on the part of some on the pro-2nd amendment side that gives the grabbers the most rhetorical ammo.

I watched 98% of the debate last night and, IMO, the pro-2nd folks stuck to the facts and did not did not display any "childish behavior".

I'm thinking about buying a life membership in the NRA ... I've already sent in some donations this year.

Let me know if you drop out and I'll do some extra recruiting for the NRA to keep our numbers up.

That's good to hear.

I don't think I'm actually going to do that. Instead, I need to write them a letter explaining my displeasure with some of their literature as of late.

One thing I've noticed over the years. NRA has found it necessary to expound as it does to get people's attention. Sticking to unemotional facts doesn't seem to get anyone's attention anymore. I'm not going to quibble with them over how they get the word out. They've been at it a long time and have professionals that know what works and what does not. Any claims made that seem extreme are most often the most extreme possible based on the wording of the legislation under discussion. That is how I look at anything: What is the worst that could happen and still be "lawful"?

freesw, now you just stop that right now, every time I think you have completely lost it, damn if you don't come up with something intellegent!! I've been an NRA member for a long time, and I agree with you - I think that they have gone just a bit over the top of late with their political hysteria.
