Obama: ‘I’m Not Going to Take Your Guns Away’
Christopher Cooper reports from Duryea, Pa., on the presidential race.
The Obama campaign talks a lot about new ideas and expanding the political map, but in the swing state of Pennsylvania, which the campaign has focused on almost exclusively since the Democratic convention, old-school issues still rise to the fore.
The latest example came Friday during a small political event at SCHOTT North America Inc., a glass factory in Duryea, Pa., where even a hand-picked crowd threw Barack Obama a curve ball.
A woman in the crowd told Obama she had “heard a rumor” that he might be planning some sort of gun ban upon being elected president. Obama trotted out his standard policy stance, that he had a deep respect for the “traditions of gun ownership” but favored measures in big cities to keep guns out of the hands of “gang bangers and drug dealers’’ in big cities “who already have them and are shooting people.”
“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.
So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? I see a couple of sportsmen back there. I’m not going to take away your guns.’’

Well There You Go! I feel so much better now.
I guess he hates guns so much because he keeps shooting himself in the foot everytime he speaks!:lol::D

When Obama speaks you have to listen just as hard at what he does not say, as to what he says.
For instance: "I'm not going to take your guns away" And, "I'm not going to take your guns away because I don't have the votes in Congress", are two totally different statements.

"Taking your guns away" and "Making it illegal to purchase new guns" are also two different things.
What Obama means, he will only take away the dangerous ones. That means anything that is a semi auto or looks evil! This falls under what the anti-gunners call "Sensible Gun Laws & Gun Safety".
It would be interesting to see how he would keep the guns out of the hands of gang bangers in big cities. The law abiding citizen in Philly can't own a semi auto, but the guy 5 miles outside the city limits can. How is he going to regulate this?
Watch-out fellow gun owners!
The first ones on the ban lists are always the ones The Ignorant will perceive as evil, or "non-sporting".
After that comes All The Rest.
Obama says he won't take our guns away, but in his head he's saying that to Sportsmen. Hunters. We saw in Australia what those words are worth. Bupkus.
He doesn't have to take your guns. He can ban all ammunition capable of penetrating a minimum level of body armor and have the same effect. The man who murdered Mary Jo Kopechne tried to pass such a law. His ilk may try it again if Obama wins the election.

I'll chime in with my 2 cents on this. Obama may have been quoted as saying that he was not going to take away your guns and he's right.
He cannot simply step in and order the siezure of all guns from American citizens.
But Obama has also been, by vote counts in both the Illinois and US Senate very anti-gun. He admitted as much with his statement about "common sense" restrictions on the ownership of AK-47s that he gave at the Deomcratic Convention in Denver this year. Roughly translated, it's all slick talk to really mask the ultimate goal of total disarmament of the public. Oh Obama won't instigate such a radical move within the next few years, but he and these other anti-gun liberals are biding their time and passively trying to shape political opinion and public indifference to restrictive gun bans until the day finally arrives that they have the votes for an all out confiscation of firearms. I don't think that's in the public interest both now and in the future. You need to remember that these people (even Republicans) want power and guns in the hands of the hackenyed peasants represents a major roadblock to that power. The democrats are waiting patiently for the political winds to shift in their favor and then they will continue on with more restrictive gun control measures, even Obama with his pro gun quotes and all.
I'm really surprised there hasn't been an Obama photo-op placing a shotgun in his hands while wearing a blaze orange whatever, but maybe his handlers told him it hasn't been that long since JFKerry tried that and maybe gun owners aren't that stupid.

If only that were true. The vehicles around here a plastered with two basic types of bumper stickers. On one side of car they have Obama or their favorite Anti-gun Democrat candidate and on the other side they have an NRA sticker. Doesn't get any more "stupid" than that. Just read some of the comments by gun owners in these political forums. As Ron White says, "You Can't Fix Stupid".

I was willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt till he picked Biden. The people under the guy at the top do make a difference. IMO we all owe John Ashcroft a big thanks for his change to DOJ policy concerning the 2nd Ammendment. And Cheny stood up on D.C. unlike his boss. Mc Cain picking Palin has made me feel much better about him.

You're damn right you're not going to.......:2guns::2guns::2guns::2guns:

I always try to de-stress myself and assume those NRA stickers are from a previous owner. The current ones certainly haven't taken them to heart.
