I'm supprised someone voted for 10mm and 22lr, LOL.

I voted .45 acp, but I predict .40S&W might be the leader eventualy.

Good point, I see no one has voted .50 AE, LOL.

This'll make me sound old, I remember when I was a kid, they used to have .22 ammo in "brick" packs on sale for .99 cents,....I remember thinking how cheap it was back then,....ahhh, the good ol' days!

Just my personal opinion of the 10mm,.....I know some people love them, but the FBI allready had the 38 super decades before the 10mm, just one of those cartridges so similar to pre-existing cartridges that I never saw a reason for them.

My favorite handgun is my Ruger .357 SS Security Six w/6" barrel, but it is a bit much to carry concealed, especially here in Florda where we wear no more clothing than necessary. Bought it back in '79 and plan to pass it on to my middle grandson who loves to shoot it.

My favorite carry is an excellent little 9mm semi-automatic, 10+1 called the Heritage Stelth. It's a South African designed weapon that several years ago was licensed for U.S. manufacture by Heritage Arms in Opolaca, FL. Don't see many of them around - I think someone else has picked up the license to manufacture the weapon but not sure who that is right now. Found out about the gun about 10 years ago in a Hand Gun magazine during the Glock frenzy. They had conducted a graded shoot-off of small carry semi-automatics (100 point scale) and this weapon came in 2nd, less than two points below one of the Glocks. Since I'm not a big Glock fan, I checked out this little jewel. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

The stealth is now being made by Wilson combat as the "ADP", it doesn't get much press, but when it does it gets decent reviews.

;)I'm with Cobradoc on the 357 cal handguns, got more than I can count on one hand! For me-this caliber does everything needed in the lower 48 states.Just have to find the right load for ones shooting abilities.<_<

I have allways been partial to the idea of a .357 revolver, you can get them in everything from compact 5 shot snubbies, to extra-large 8 shot monsters.
You can shoot everything from light-weight .38 special target loads to full power +P+ .357 magnum hunting loads, a very flexable platform in my opinion.;)

I'm right there with you Mike. I'd say my preferences are:
.45 ACP
.40
.357

My fav cal IS actualy the .45acp, all my pistols are .45 1911s, but if I had to get a non-.45acp revolver, it would most likely be a .357 because of my previously stated reasons.

Question, is there a rifle readily available that fires the same round as the .357 handgun?
I think that would be a pretty good gun.

Granted there were any number of 40 and 41 cal. that came before, but the 10 has the benefit of fitting in my Gov't model carry gear and being considerably hotter than the 45. Also if it hadn't been for the awful 40 there would have been a carbine or two by now.

Don't hold me to it, but I think I may have seen some lever action rifles made for .357 mag.

That would make a nice combo, Ruger DA .357 revolver and a nice lever action rifle in .357 mag.

Yep. Lever Actions - Marlin, Rossi, Puma, Henry and several others. The 357 mag. in a rifle barrel is hotter than you might think.

With the price of ammo these days I picked the 9mm. You can still buy it reasonably cheap. Looks like everyone loves their 45's here. Also, no 357 Sig which seems to be gaining some ground. Although Im not sure why.

.45acp here. 1911 owner and proud! I reload, so I shoot much cheaper than factory 9mm even, and Im shooting at about the same cost as Wolf MT .22 LR!!!!!

second favorite: .22LR. In fact, thats my overall favorite rounds, .45acp then .22lr, taking pistol and rifle out of the mix, that is.

It depends on who you are. I am a big guy so recoil has never been a problem for me, so I prefer the larger rounds. Based on my research I would have to say the 10mm. The 10mm was selected as the FBI round of choice in the mid 1990’s, but was removed due to some agents having problems with the recoil. It was selected due to its ability to maintain a flat trajectory when fired from long range (much like the .357sig). This is due to the round being roughly the size of a .40cal, whereas the .45 acp is much heavier and begins to drop after about 30rds. Problem for the FBI, but not a problem for most of us due to most self defense shootings take place at 3rds to 7rds. The other factor is the large mouth of the .45 acp hollow point. This large opening makes the round less effective when fire through objects at targets. The hollow point opening tends to fill rapidly with clothing material, glass or wood. Again a problem for the FBI, but not a problem for most of us due to most self defense shootings do not involve shooting through doors or car windshields.
