I just got out of the hospital yesterday and am on strict orders to remain calm, not let myself get too excited, and not exert myself, but watching the McCain/Palin show today I couldn't help myself - I was cheering like it was a good football game.

GO MAC, GO SARAH!!!

I caught a little bit of that while I was at work. The crowd was chanting...USA..USA..USA. Didn't listen to the Dems show. Did anybody hear the same thing there?

Yes, loud and clear.

Yes, loud and clear.

Then I'll take your word for it.

I heard it myself, and for any doubting Thomases:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/29/us/politics/29dems.html?pagewanted=2&hp
So I’ve got news for you, John McCain: We all put our country first,” he said, prompting the crowd to break into a chant of “U.S.A., U.S.A.”

Of course, that won't stop the noise like this, posted today:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2071166/posts
"I never hear USA! USA! USA! at a Democratic convention or meeeting........how come?"
... and everyone responds with agreement, right on cue, about how awful Democrats are because they don't chant "USA! USA! USA!" at their conventions. <_<

There's a lot of truth to the adage that truth is the first casualty of war.

No, and I don't know but doubt it.

The slurs against Democrats are frequently in error, you know.

Slurs often times ARE in error. I wish they,Republicans and Democrats, would
seek whats best for the country instead of what they do to try to make
thier particular party LOOK good. I just happen to believe, unlike you, that the Republicans, as weak as they are right now, are the best choice.

And by the way,I don''t pay a heck of alot of attention to what comes from the NY Times.

Doesn't just apply to Democrats. The party of inclusion and tolerance has its share of the most hateful, vile, fiction-spewing characters I've ever seen, based on the lefty blogs and BBS I take ganders at. At least the worst are far from the majority. I don't know why, but I sorta expect it from the backwards non-thinkers, not so much from supposedly educated urban types. Some of the posts made the White Supremacist stuff I stumbled across look pedestrian!

Another reason not to take stuff you read on the 'net too seriously.

"I have formed a very clear conception of patriotism. I have generally found it thrust into the foreground by some fellow who has something to hide in the background. I have seen a great deal of patriotism; and I have generally found it the last refuge of the scoundrel." - The Judgement of Dr. Johnson, Act III G.K Chesterton

Well stated - there's far more truth there than poetry.

The same could be said or written about any other "ism", not just patriotism.
