Considering the source, I don't expect to see much in the way of positive change, no matter how much grassroots input is generated.

They continue to use the "30,000 people are killed by guns each year" which is not technically true. 16,000 of those are suicides and even some of the biggest gun banners concede that method of suicide is irrelevent.

That said, it amazes me that these people are out to stop "gun violence" and just violence in general. It reminds of the old "All in the family" episode where Gloria says to Archie "Daddy do you know that X number of people are killed by guns each year?" to which Archie responds "would you rather they was pushed out of windows?"

Violence is the problem, not the implement of the violence. Guns do not make people violent nor do they motivate violence; they are just the mechanism.

It will always be with us.

I think the anti gunners really are actually fools they are actually anti violence which sounds nice but its asinine. They believe they can stop violence which is human nature. They'd be quite happy with everyone being forced to take drugs which turn us into mindless zombies, then maybe we wouldnt be violent, but until then we're going to kill eachother in whatever ways we can. They see guns as just symbolic of violence, nothing more.

The type of people we're talking about here couldn't be bothered with the facts. All that matters to them is that they seize upon a cause, whine and cry and stamp their feet to induce the government to do "something" so that they can feel better about it. It's all about "feelings", as evidenced by the utter failure of the AWB to do anything of substance, yet they cling to it like a worn-out blanky. What is really scary is that many of these people now hold positions in that very government.

Sorry, but Democrats are the problem.

The type of people we're talking about here couldn't be bothered with the facts.

The type of people we are taking about is an entire political party and it's platform, Democrats. Not just a few lone individuals within the system.

Well said!

This past weekend, I had a first-time visitor to the US in from England. He was fascinated with the openness and availability of firearms here in the US. We got to talking about illegal firearms and gun violence. I made the point that the rate of violent crime in "western" nations is pretty much even statistically. In the US, guns rank higher as the implement of violence....in the UK it's knives. He left have met several responsible, well-informed gun owners, and with a lot of good facts to chew on. Great conversations, and no preaching!

Unfortunately due to timing and consumption of alcohol we didn't get to the range. We did get up to Otter Falls on the Kangamangas Hwy up in the White Mountains, then a couple of BBQs down in southern MA on Saturday. He may have gone to the range on Sunday with one of my other friends, but don't know for sure. Definitely next time though!

That highway sounds like it was named after something in Aussieland...
