I am having trouble getting a good answer for this question. What is the difference between the .45 colt and .45 long colt (LC)? I know the .45 acp (Automatic Colt Pistol) is used in 1911 and such modern day semi auto handguns. I am thinking that the 45 colt and 45 lc are two of the same cartridges but they are used in revolvers and lever actions. Corret me and fill me in. thanks.

.45 colt and .45 long colt are the same round. they used to call it the LONG COLT so that it wouldn't get confused with the .45 acp(auto colt pistol)... this is what i've been told. i asked the same question about colt/long colt when i bought my Taurus "Judge"

Interesting background on the .45 Colt / .45 Long Colt nomenclature debate:

There are 2 45 schofield's, (45 short) next to 2 45 Colt's (45 long) in the photo. There's also a couple 455 Webley's (the cone shapped bullets), a 45 Auto Rimmed, 454 Casull and a 45 Dutch revolver (along with a couple 45's you've never even heard of) in there. Note, that it can be called either Colt or Long, but never "Long Colt" (dispite the number of authors that get it wrong)
