I have yet to find a mount that will stay tight on my non RR mini 14. Does anyone know of a foolproof mount. I heard the S&K was pretty good.

one of the aftermarket bramds uses dual clamping screws, supposed to be reliable but can't think of name of it.
My mini is a 191 series SS and I use the B-square mount. But it's not worth a fiddlers squat either

I have a 183 Mini with a scope mount that fits into the rear sight housing and is held tight by an allen screw on the back to keep tension on the front part of the mount that rest over the chamber. It moved with the recoil. It didn't hold zero at all. I drilled a hole in the top part of the mount that rests on the chamber and drilled a shallow hole into the top of the chamber. Then I tapped the hole in the chamber and put an allen screw through the scope mount and into the tapped hole in the chamber. I also drilled and tapped a small hole into the side of the front part of the scope mount to push the front of the mount to the center. It works very well now but it was a tough job to get everything to work right. I had to cut back the right side of the mount to get my brass to clear during ejection. I have a piece if innertube under the scope to protect the right side adjusting knob of my scope from the brass ejecting. If I had to do it again, I would weld a rail to the side of the receiver and mount the scope mount onto the rail. That's assuming that someone makes a steel rail. You would probably need to make your own steel rail to weld to the receiver. The older Mini's are hard to mount scopes. I don't know of a mount that really works good unless you modify it.
Thanks, Mickey

The scope mount that Magnomark has posted above looks like my scope mount. They may not be the same because my mount is 25 years old. They may have made improvements since then. If it is the same, then the front of the mount doesn't really lock into anything. It just rest on the top of the chamber. There is no way to keep the front of the mount from moving side to side. I even added a shim to the rear of the mount that goes into the rear sight housing to keep the back end from moving. I think that welding a rail to the side of the receiver is the strongest way to mount a scope.
Thanke, Mickey

;)FWIW-At one time they made a base similar to the one that I posted the link to,but it was called the "wasp"sighting system.I ordered one,and purchased another at a gun show back in the early 80s.I have only seen one other that a member here PU had found on Ebay or Gunbrokers. They are made of STEEL,and have a welded steel rail on top of the part that fits into the rear sight "wings" or "ears",it even has as a bonus a built in peep sight that lines up perfectly with the factory front sight. The lash up is surprisingly stable, and really needs no more adjusting screws than what it comes with.If I could get my hands on a "smithy" and spend a day or two playing with the design I could make one that would meet all of our needs, but no smithy available.......for now!<_<
