Hi folks,

New to the forum, and extremely happy to have found it. I have a late model Mini-14 SS Wood Stock that with the help of you all, have decided to have Gundoc do his magic with his #2 package. I want to have him trim the barrel down to 16 1/4", tap it for AR muzzle accessories, add the Accustrut, so on...Does anyone have a reccommendation for a SS Cali-legal muzzle break? Also, a little new to centerfire rifles, and was thinking about scoping it.
Should I go with a Red dot type, or 3x9x40 that most seem to have. I was looking at ASI's urban brawler see thru rail, because I like the idea of keeping the iron sights...would I need that, or can I mount these type of optics with the Ruger scope rings? Would I lose the abitlity to use the sights? I am setting this up as a fun, slightly different than run of the mill shooter, with the idea that if SHTF, I would have a reliable rifle that I could accuratley put rounds downrange out to 100-150 yards, or maybe farther...Thanks for any help you can give a new Mini owner!

Gun Doc is very familiar with CA DOJ's muzzle brake requirements and could aid your selection quite capably. A thread on brake is OK here but must be permanently afixed; i.e. blind pinned, brazed or welded to the barrel. According to my Class 3 dealer friends the classification of the muzzle end device pretty much depends upon what the manufacturer wants to call it, compensator, brake or flash hider. The last being a big NO NO in CA. Check out the Amega Ranges rail mount if you decide to forward mount your optics. The relief milled down the center line of the rail allows the factory or other iron sights to remain functional with the optics removed. If its a red dot you want you will find none better that the latest Aimpoints. Rugged, dependable and amazing 5 to 8 year battery life with the unit left turned on! Spendy but worth it IMHO.

I never read the law, but I thought you only needed it blind pinned in place, IF you had a shorter then 16" barrel and the brake added on, made the barrel longer than 16"
