Any one have any experience with this NcStar SKS Rail that replaces the receiver cover on a Norinco SKS? . Spent an hour filing down just to get it as close as possible but not quite. It did mention some filing but I wasn't expecting this much.

I'll try again tomorrow but does anyone have any other ideas for mounting a rail on a standard stock SKS.

Mine took about 1/2hr to file. I would take 10 strokes then test fit, repeat, etc. until I knew from test fitting that I was getting darned close. Then I'd give it 3 strokes and test fit, repeat, until I finally had it so tight I could barely force the retaining pin in. I was stoked! No noticeable movement at all. Less than 20rds later, it's loose as a goose. I might try to save it with solder or something I can apply then file down for a nice side-to-side fit with no slop. I got my mount from CDNN where they don't show the brand; I thought I'd get the UTG mount (I heard it was good).

Thanks for the reply. I actually gave up on it tonight after another session of trying to make it fit then having trouble with the pin hole. I should have known better and after hearing everyone's opinion here and elsewhere I am going to keep it stock for now.

I have tried the receiver cover scope mount and the gas tube scope mount. I have bought more junk for my sks's than i should have. I should have saved my money and bought another sks. If I cannot hit it with open sites at least I would have another 10 rounds at the ready in the gun I would have bought with all the money I would have saved buying junk. I am not complaining, it is a learning process for me. Has anyone had luck with add on scope mounts? I did the same thing with my Mosin's, shoulda learned then, just a hard head I guess.

Since I currently have more time than money, I'm trying to modify my mount in hopes that it will fit tight and hold zero. Brazing would be ideal, but I don't have that kind of tools/knowledge, so I'm slowly using JB Weld to build up material in key parts. It's requiring a lot of filing and fitting. I'll let you know if I'm successful...
