Hello everyone, first time caller!!! Great site though, been trolling for a while.

I bought a used Mini-14 a while back and had a machinist/gunsmith (mostly machinist) cut my barrle down to 16 1/4" and install muzzle break....problem is when he re-installed the barrel he over torqued it into the action and my gas port is off by a smigeon (maybe a millimeter of two) everything works fine and the rifle is actualally more accurate because of the barrel cut, but I'm wonder if the reliablity will be effected?

More to the point, can I or him just rotate the barrel back to proper alignment or has that changed something in the receiver?

If the rifle shoots well and the action works smoothly you should be fine. The extractor cut is wide enough to take a small amount of misalignment. The gas piston needs to smoothly enter the op rod or there will be some wesr there. The barrel can be turned back a little and still be tight enough to remain torqued in the receiver.

I have seen plenty of barrels that look mis-aligned but really aren't. The important alignment is the gas port, not the indexing cut on the barrel. Let me know if you would like to take a look at it for you. Thanks!
